JAKARTA, KOMPAS.com - Chief of Staff of the Indonesian Navy (KSAL) Admiral Muhammad Ali said that there was a possibility that the Indonesian Ministry of Defense would buy submarines from other countries after purchasing the Scorpene submarine.

Indonesia has signed a contract to procure two Scorpene submarines produced by Naval Group, France.

"It is possible that there will be additional submarines from other countries outside of this, hopefully if there is a budget,"

From this statement it can be concluded that TNI AL is actually more inclined towards German products and the scorpene was only chosen for the sake of PT PAL and better offset.

Especially a particular Singaporean guy in that forum who always yes always look down at any Indonesian military updates. Even calling that the Italians are getting rid of their PPAs and nobody wants to buy those PPAs except Indonesia in order for them to buy destroyers. Guess what the Italians are buying 2 new PPAs to replace the ones they sold to Indonesia. LOL.

And that is still a legit question, you have stated the fact but the question remains unanswered. Despite of not having a great difference in time plan, why Indonesia is not ordering new hulls but the existing ones that will go through set of updates and upgrades. The question and doubts are valid when first two hulls were rather experimental/evolutionary to Italians themselves.

I have a cousin in Navy.
Seems like they're working hard to bring one PPA for September Navy anniversary.

A quick win program for modernization (and our future president)

The PPAs sale to Indonesia is exactly the same scheme like the Fincantieri FREMMs sale to Egypt. By using this Singaporean guy logic does this mean the Italians are also getting rid of their FREMMs? No.

Mind you that this is the same Singaporean guy who said that he wanted Indonesia to be wiped out of the world map and mocking Palu earthquake in his posts. He always bragging how "mighty" Singapore military are on repeat. Yes on repeat same topic all over again.

Excerpts.

"What makes Italy’s offer particularly appealing to Egypt is that the vessels are almost ready. Fincantieri is proposing to sell Cairo the final two of ten frigates now being built for the Italian navy.

The plan is to divert the two vessels to Egypt, then win a top-up order from Italy to complete the Italian navy’s complement of ships.

Of the two frigates in question, the Emilio Bianchi was launched in January and was due for delivery to the Italian navy in 2021, while the Spartaco Schergat is due for delivery in a few months."

If i remember correctly FREMM order have been converted in the shipyard, while PPAs have been operated by Italian Navy*. Correct me if i am wrong those two hulls are commissioned, while FREMMs are not. Also FREMM acquired by Egypt was not the first two hulls of an entirely new concept (layout, form, sensor suit and so on)**

I don't know who is that singaporean guy, i don't take other's logic for granted on this matter. I am using my own and a basic knowledge that if those two hulls are the first two hulls of the class and and have been operated by Italian Navy readily then there is something off. If those ships have not been commissioned then my statement is rendered obsolote.

*appearantly Indonesia receives 5th and 6th hulls that goes trials (operated by Italian Navy personnel)
**It wasn't 1st and 2nd but 5th and 6th, so it is alright. All i needed was this information. You don't need to go all defensive on me and i honestly don't care about other's statement here.

Urgent orders = Surged prices (unless it is EU funding it as in Egypt's case).

And based on my experience there will be no training before Italy receives the first payment, and let alone, 5 to 6 months is very little amount of training time for a platform Indonesian Navy is foreign at a whole.

Meanwhile, looks like two PPAs are making up for two Maestrale bundled with FREMM, that was intended to be gap filler until FREMMs delivered. It is possible that Maestrale upgrade and life extension (and equipment refreshing) have yielded to an unexplicable budget.

Lets not bring troubles from other places to this forum.
As for that singaporean guy, lets just be understanding, after all he is a singaporean, he can only sleep soundly at night while still feeling superior, if not then he won't be able to sleep and filled with worry.

"ROME. As we learned in recent days, the Indonesian Ministry of Defense has signed a 1.18 billion euro contract with Fincantieri for the supply of two Multipurpose Offshore Patrol Vessels (PPA) class "Thaon di Revel".

Revel's PPA Thaon underway

According to what has been reported, these would be, in particular, the "Marcantonio Colonna" and the "Ruggero di Lauria", two of the PPAs in the "Light +" configuration originally intended for the Navy, which should be brought to the "Full" configuration before delivery."
