It is reported an object was detected at 50-100 meters. Earlier it was reported an MCM vessel detected a magnetic anomaly hovering above the bottom. Could be related to each other.

Yudo Margono said rescuers had found an unidentified object with high magnetism at a depth of 50-100m (165-330ft) and that officials hoped it was the submarine.

I hope that hi magnetism object is 402; in 50 - 100m depth perhaps She still flying in water.
Also KRI 933 Rigel has arrive in the area.

Despite that, This man statement wich expert at submarine maintenance make me sad 😭

"Ahn Guk-hyeon, an official from South Korea’s Daewoo Shipbuilding and Marine Engineering, which refitted the vessel in 2009-2012, said the submarine would collapse if it goes deeper than around 200m. He said his company upgraded much of the submarine’s internal structures and systems but lacked recent information about the vessel."

200m is max depth of 209/1300.

Everybody is talking about it, yet i can not find any actual source by himself neither i can verify such an engineer exists in Daewoo submarine department. Did he say it on twitter or to a news maker?

Admiral Margano said 21 Indonesian Navy ships, two submarines and five aircraft were conducting search operations though he did not identify the ships involved. The Indonesian Navy Chief also stated that the missing submarine was expected to have 72 hours of oxygen available from the time contact was lost and that the oxygen would run out by 3:00 a.m. on Saturday Indonesian time.

Air Chief Marshal Tjahjanto stated that a magnetic object floating at a depth of 50 meters to 100 meters had been found and that KRI Rigel was on the way to retrieve the object.

Not 1 but 2 submarine has been dispatched.
Floating magnetic object? Low possibility of a naval mine, it could be a submarine.

Good bisa buat backup.

Yes, if the boat already located then send DSRV but if we are still in the searching phase then better to use side-scan sonar. Side-scan sonar is looks like a torpedo and towed by the host ship, so the operating depth can be adjusted.

That's how ocean infinity able to found Argentine sunken sub (depth : about 800 m), even the ship can map southern indian ocean in the seach of MH370 (depth: few km).

Effective range? Ulur kabelnya biar bisa lebih dalem.
ARA San Juan was found by a sonar equipped ROV not towed array sonar.

Towed array sonar itself uses hydrophones towed on a cable trailing behind a submarine or a surface ship. it can be miles long and it is designed to keep the array's sensors away from the tow vessel's noise to improve its signal to noise ratio and its ability to detect and track faint contacts. So the more we "ulur" the cable the longer it will get extended but not necessarily deeper

My search about this guy also find nothing, but this news already swing around. Mkae any clear information diverse

The navy said the submarine can dive max 500 m, more than that is dangerous.
Thats the problem when we talk about Subs or other strategic asset. Only the Manufacturer and user know the exact capability.

The frigate itself didnt mention in thisse news. Could be anti submarine hunt training for them, back the memories of Tim Tim conflict.

Technically risky and $ risky.
Suddenly developing DSRV for very deep operation and after spending lots of money probably would only purchase 1 or 2, and I dont think it will success on international market.

actually the same issue with a midget sub. even building an SSK still have success related risk. perhaps building a tourism subs is the only risk free option

Side-scan sonar can be towed, mounted on hull or put it on AUV.
If its a towed version (tow fish) the depth above the seafloor can be adjusted.

Ocean Infinity’s AUVs are the most technologically advanced in the world. They are capable of operating in water depths from 5 meters to 6,000 meters. The AUVs are not tethered to the vessel during operations, allowing them to go deeper and collect higher quality data for the search. They are equipped with a side scan sonar, a multi-beam echo-sounder, a sub-bottom profiler, an HD camera, a conductivity / temperature / depth sensor, a self-compensating magnetometer, a synthetic aperture sonar and a turbidity sensor.

This one is AUV ver, I guess its okay for them to boast about their product.

How sure you are about being static?
ASW and SAR are not the same thing. Don't expect to be on equal basis.

from this tragedy the maintenance culture of TNI AL need to be audited, root cause should be found and rectified ASAP. high ranking officers also need to share the burden of responsibility. they clearly should stop spewing "world class navy" jargon

Maintenance? It could be caused by external factors such as getting heavily entangled in a fishing net etc.

Whats wrong with world class navy jargon? It means TNI AL want to become professional, good doctrine & strategy, good harwat, having advance and modern equipments etc they want to have a standard like those country with better standard than ours right now, its ok but spewing something like "Blue Water Navy"? Ngimpi disiang bolong at least for several decades ahead.

IMHO
