WANI-23 Born from Concern and Belief

WANI.jpg

He said that the presence of WANI-23 is not just a technology project, but a spirit of resistance against dependence on imports.

"We started with simple tools, no one told us to, but we knew Indonesia needed it, and we dared to make it ourselves," he said. The biggest challenge was building from scratch, outside the scheme of a large consortium.

Even when the world only knew the dominance of the United States and China in the production of Medium Altitude Long Endurance (MALE) category drones, Adi chose the difficult path, creating a local alternative with a flight capability of up to 25 hours, can carry ammunition, and is fully controlled via a homemade flight control.

"The brain, the control system, we developed everything, yes, this drone was truly born from the hands of our own people," he said. He emphasized that Indonesia actually already has great potential. For that, he and his team built an aviation engine production ecosystem in Yogyakarta.

Currently, 50 percent of the WANI-23 engine components are available in the local market, while the rest are being adjusted.

"Next year, the machine will be ready, after that, there is no reason for us to continue waiting for foreign technology," said the INACOM chairman.

In the cooperation, a strategic cooperation was agreed upon which includes joint marketing, sales, joint production, and integration of weapons systems, including light torpedoes and anti-submarine missiles, sonobuoys, 70 mm caliber guided rockets, 130 mm caliber guided rockets, and Korean GPS-Guided Bombs.

"All marketing and sales activities for this weapons system will be focused on the Indonesian region and the Southeast Asia (ASEAN) region," said Arif.

"PTDI has also agreed to an MoU with PT SAS Aero Sishan for the development of 70mm rocket launcher units and procurement of test rockets, as well as the development, production, marketing and maintenance of 70 mm FFAR rockets and Merah Putih Guided Rockets," said Arif.

This collaboration is expected to improve the capability of local weapons system integration to strengthen the national defense industry supply chain, as well as encourage the realization of independence of the main weapons systems (alutsista) of the Indonesian National Army (TNI).
