I don't understand what this means ?

Already mainstream 🤔 sorry i don't know much
We don't buy high dollar stuff, we buy cheap stuff.

When a piece of equipment gets cheaper it becomes mainstream, you can buy more for cheaper.

You don't need all that much processing power to develop technology.

EDIT: In the past we rented supercomputer time from the US mostly for aircraft development by TAI. The first supercomputer we bought was a $5mn Cray computer during late eighties I guess, a Cray branded one. I see that they are still the brand making the top end machines.

I think we should make supercomputers ourselves rather than buying ready made.

I mean of course cray is at the top of the leader board it belongs to Us and nvidia as well next is china and then Japan South Korea
US literally builds supercomputers for thier clients and states heavily under thier influence that's why they are also at the top look at saudi arabia rank 18 build by us for saudi Aramco

No such luck for us

According to TRT Turkish public broadcaster, TĂĽrkiye has 2 Super computer, but There isn't any info on their speed online, Afaik, Older one has 5120 core and it was build in 2015. Newer one might be the the TAI has which has 70k core. But that is my guess since There isn't any news about any other Turkish super computer.

Thier is no end to computing india build one in 2021 rank 62 checked rank today it's 111 https://indiaai.gov.in/case-study/india-s-fastest-supercomputer-param-siddhi-ai-ranked-62-globally

Now thier are exascale computers being built by the time india builds one in 2024 or 2025 who know how far the others would have gone

I hope turkey the best of luck in this field may they build an exascale computer soon🙏

Thanks buddy now i get it
Turkey built a 50000 core computer in 2015 and added 20000 cores to it to increase its capacity maybe that's why it's processing power is not on the internet who know
This is a very good idea but it has a drawback of decreasing efficiency but it's amazing that turkey is able to do this in a field they don't heavily concentrate on pretty. Good đź‘Ťđź‘Ťđź‘Ť
I was getting confused while all members were talking about cores when speed is measured in flops now i get it thanks for making my brain understand

TAI shook hands for a new supercomputer with 50 thousand cores!
TAI has added a new one to its infrastructure investments in information technologies in order to perform the needed analysis. Announced by TAI, the new supercomputer with 50 thousand cores will work together with the 20 thousand-core supercomputer it had in the past years.

In this way, the company, which aims to save a great deal of time in testing and analysis (it will reduce the time of thousands of interconnected calculations by a quarter) with a total capacity of 70 thousand cores, will also analyze alternative test scenarios for the aircraft it has developed here

After Ford Otosan decided for a giant investment for up to 45GWh battery factory, this time Toyota will invest 7 billion TL in a factory with a production capacity of 44000 batteries per year and to produce hybrid model cars.

Turkey is member of PRACE, EuroCC, and scientist in TR highly benefits from Supercomputers in europe.

Apart from that, two high performance computing centers, where supercomputers are located in, are available providing both GPU and CPU based computing services.

(Counting only past 2017+ installed cores)
Tubitak - TRUBA - 25K cores + High end GPUs
Istanbul Technical University - UHEM - 15K cores + High end GPUs

Also on top of these several universities are running computation centers for their needs with varying number of cores up to 5K in general.

While TRUBA is science oriented and free to all scientists in TR, UHEM also provides computation services to the commercial projects.

I am not really expecting TR to establish exascale computing centers anytime soon, as computation resources are available from EuroCC and Prace and they are already taking part in multi-national projects running in EU. What we could expect is at most hitting 100K cores in each of those computation centers.

Companies like Aselsan, Roketsan, TAI is funding their own computation centers.

So turkey gets most of its computing needs from Europe 🌍 how cool
It's good that they have such facilities
If only india was closer would have not needed to invest so much

To be a part of these alliances do they charge a fee or its sponsored and used by all European members ?

Cores don't make computing viable FLOPS does read the top500 rankings
The cores may be slow or fast what they do in combination matters
For ex an i5 of 2022 with 6 cores
Will outperform a i7 of 2010 with 8 cores see the point
Efficiency and parrallel processing is the key
The performance of a computer is measured in
Rmax (PFlop/s)
And rpeak flops
Sustained and Max performance
Higher number of cores don't necessarily mean faster performance
A 57k computer outperforms a 170k computer

First of all, this is not a thread to lecture about FLOPS, if i have replied to you, you may as well gues i have some knowledge on my side.

Second of all, i do these in my daily life so i know what flops is. It highly varies for the solved problem, whether it is memory or CPU intense. It depends on the complier, instruction sets available in complier, cpu architecture, interlink of servers and clusters.

So two nodes consisting of 2 x 20 - 2 x 20 set up may never beat a single node consisting of 32 x 2 cores. That is why there are servers that support up to 4 CPU sockets. Network switch is another factor, the more you pay, the less latency and more bandwith you get.

Exascale needs, yes provided by EuroCC or Prace.

For prace there are tiers, you apply with a project and host countries usually provides multi million cpu hours at no costs. For EuroCC it depends on the project, if an EU project the project funds it, otherwise the prices are not high and affordable for scientists.

Hm.......
I think one Russian nuclear power plant in Akkuyu is enough tbh

What I love in Turkish economy in general is that there is something called "competition"! Turkey shouldnt give the whole market to Russia but instead diverse its sources to other nations like Japan and South Korea to build Nuclear power plants in the country

The only reason I think Turkey is asking Russia again is if Rosatom agreed to the same terms of Akkuyu; i-e, Russia will take on all of the costs of building the Nuclear power plant.

@heartbang is right when tenders in opened in past no one came forward other than Russia and Japan-French consortium which supposed to builder for this second NPT but consortium withraw all of a sudden.(probably politic pressure).

This time, Turkiye need to get expertise and knowledge out of this project. Going forward, Turkey needs to build them herself maybe with a little input from Pakistan.

How safe are Russian nuclear power plants?

If any Turkish nuclear plant explodes. The Russians should send their own liquidators.

I would not trust any of their designs. Thanks to the Russians I cant even have a proper talk about nuclear power with my friends or anybody as they always point to Chernobyl again and again.

Russians have given Nuclear power such a bad name due to fck ups.
