Seems reasonable if they feel like their air defenses are at serious risk of being overwhelmed. USA, Britain, France and Israel have excellent intelligence in both Iran and Lebanon... Especially as it relates to key military sites. They could inflict significant damage to the Iranians and their proxies to preemptively get things kicked off.
The issue is not just about causing harm. It is about being willing to pay the price. If warships from the US Navy start sinking and the bases where bomber planes are stationed are hit, you cannot talk about deterrence here.

Judging by the statements of officials, we can say that this is the case.
They may have expected a certain level of preparations and base their estimate on that, but while the preparations continue, it may point at even larger response than initially anticipated as some statements in the Israeli media show.
If the preparation of the strike requires so much time, they are right to be concerned. Of course there was an intense diplomatic traffic, but by the looks we can't talk about de-escalation.
Many sources close to the Axis of Resistance claim that the strikes will continue for a couple of days (high intensity I suppose?) so it is normal to take so long and I think we may see some action in the next couple of days.
If we don't see action and the threats continue while intelligence points at continous preparation I would advice everyone that has the opportunity to leave the Middle East

If there are no nations going extinct it's a girl fight. The last time Ustad slapped someone the dinosaurs went extinct. The aliens are not showing up because of fear of what they saw then and even @Bogeyman checks under his bed for Ustad before going to sleep. Ustad is simply not impressed with these amateurs.
Jokes aside. I think while Iran will surely show a certain level of restraint, they will also push the limits this time and I expect second tier political and military officials to be targeted, military and Israeli government infrastructure, symbolic sites too. I think we may see some serious damage, but what I am worried about is not these strikes, but the possible Israeli response and the possibility of a following miscalculation which may result in our darkest scenarios coming to life. So basically Ustad is still right and Israel will not be "deleted" in result of these strikes.

I hope you realize the potential magnitude of what you're suggesting and the subsequent repercussions that the civilians of Lebanon would be forced to endure if Hezbollah succeeded in a meaningful attack against Israel?
It would give the Israeli government all the "ammunition" they need to start an extension and protracted bombing campaign in Lebanon. That sounds like a lot of civilians that die unnecessarily.
I don't think a major attack by Hezbollah is a overly smart, unless the organization is willing to go "all in" attempting to eliminate Israel.

The problem for Iran is there is no winning option for them.
If they make an attack that doesn’t inflict any meaningful damage to Israel (like the last time), their threats will not be taken seriously and people will doubt their ability to harm Israel.
If they make a successful attack that inflicts serious damage, Israel is guaranteed to responde with much more amplified damage on Iran, which will put Iran in an even worse situation, as it will be their turn to respond, after being hit much harder than before.
Israel will not take any serious hit without a strong response, as it is Israeli policy to inflict many times more damage to their enemies for any hit against them. Look what they’re doing to Gaza as punishment for the October 7 attack. The number of deaths in Gaza already far exceeds the Israeli deaths, and they are still not stopping.
Iran has to choose between a weak response that will harm their reputation and a serious response that will have devastating repercussions for them.
