Israel has “successfully completed a complex series of tests” on C-Dome, a sea-based version of the Iron Dome missile defense system, the Defense Ministry announced on Monday.

The C-Dome system was designed by Rafael Advanced Weapons Systems and is installed on a Sa'ar-6 corvette. According to the ministry, the system functioned successfully in the tests against “a variety of advanced threats” during testing supervised by the Navy and the Defense Ministry's Weapons Development and Technology Infrastructure Administration (MAFAT in Hebrew).

“The experiment examined a number of scenarios that simulate existing and future threats that the system may face during a conflict, such as rockets, cruise missiles and UAVs,” the ministry said in a statement, noting that the new seaborne system is now “integrated into the national system for air defense.”

“Using the powerful radar specially developed for the mission, the system successfully identified the threats we fired at it —rockets, UAVs and cruise missiles— and launched Iron Dome interceptors at them from the middle of the sea, destroying them with perfect accuracy. The success of the experiment further strengthens our confidence in the system and its ability to protect large areas and strategic assets of the State of Israel,” said Israel Missile Defense Organization chief Moshe Patel, likely referring to offshore gas fields whose limits are being negotiated with Lebanon.

A video of the tests shared on Twitter showed rockets and drones fired from land being intercepted by rockets launched from the foredeck of a Sa’ar-6 corvette in the Mediterranean, although the system’s success rate was not publicly disclosed.
