A few minutes ago, explosions were reported in the Strait of Hormuz and near Kharg Island, southern Iran.

Also, air defenses in the Hormozgan Province have been put on "red alert", there's a possibility that the U.S. is conducting airstrikes on Iranian oil tankers.

5 men have been arrested near the RAF base at Fairford, southern England. The men are suspected of explosives offences and terrorism offences. The base is also used by the USAF.

An Iranian-linked motive is considered the most likely, a source familiar with the investigation said, while a Russian sabotage operation or an Islamist plot were also being looked at.

Britain said in July its armed forces were ready to protect the country from any attack after Iran's Revolutionary Guards warned it not to allow US bombers to fly from Fairford, saying any base used to launch attacks would be a legitimate target.

By targeting this port with drones and missiles, Iran sends a clear message: no regional oil export route is safe outside the chokepoint.

• Sohar (Oman) is safe: Oman acts as the "Switzerland of the Middle East." It stays strictly neutral and serves as the vital diplomatic bridge between Tehran and the West. Iran will not attack Sohar because destroying Omani infrastructure means losing its most important back-channel diplomatic lifeline.

Future Risks for Oman’s Sohar Region:
While safe from missiles for now, Sohar faces severe long-term threats:

• Geopolitical Pressure: As Western powers and Gulf neighbors push Oman to take a firmer stance against Iran, maintaining strict neutrality will become harder. If Sohar is perceived as aiding Iran's rivals during a major escalation, its "diplomatic immunity" could vanish.

• Shadow Warfare: The high volume of ship-to-ship oil transfers off Sohar's coast opens the door to stray drone strikes, cyber sabotage, or accidental maritime disasters that could ruin its reputation as a safe Haven.
