Japan Plans Largest Military Exercise in 30 Years in East China Sea
The Japanese army is preparing to hold exercises in the face of Chinese navies increasing their regional presence, public broadcaster NHK reported, citing sources from the Japan Ground Self-Defense Force (GSDF).
September to November with the participation of approximately 140 thousand GSDF personnel in the south of the country will hold military exercises in the Kyushu region, according to the GSDF.
The biggest military exercise in 30 years, in which military units in the northern regions of Hokkaido and Tohoku and Shikoku will be deployed to Kyushu, is planned to increase the level of deterrence against possible emergencies in the country's southwest.
It was noted that the content of the exercise, in which Logistics consisting of military personnel, tanks and food will be sent to the region by ships and aircraft, may vary depending on the outbreak of a new type of coronavirus (Kovid-19).
The last such exercise was in 1993, when the Cold War ended, the Kyodo agency reported.
