Grounded Dreams: Lockheed XF-90 – First US Air Force Jet to Have an Afterburner
Built as Lockheed's answer to the US Air Force's postwar penetration fighter requirement, the Lockheed XF-90 featured a rugged airframe, afterburners, and advanced swept-wing design. Despite becoming the first Lockheed jet to exceed the speed of sound in a dive, its underpowered engines and shifting military priorities ended the program before production.
