I've been wondering for a long time if Ecotorq, the first Turkish engine in its class proudly developed in the country, would make it into the defence industry. Nice.

Unrelated, but if Ali Koc could stop being a dick for a while, I would be really happy for Koc.

Koc corporation has the capability to become one of the pillars of Turkish defence industry. Unfortunately so far they have chosen easy money over self-reliance and innovation. Hopefully this new engine represents a change in their mentality.

Koc group is %7 of Turkey's GDP for a reason. They are classical rational capitalists. Minimum risk maximum profit is their way to go, no different than basicly every global giants.

If you ask Koc group to design and produce a 1500hp military powerpack they will not accept it with so little funding cause it is too risky for them when they have nowhere near such capabilities, they will not pursue such adventure most they had before this 700hp is 150-500hp engines. They did not produce 480hp for 40 years ago for example but they did in early 2000's with their own resources.

They will design&produce 700hp, 1000hp etc as the time goes cause they have their r&d planning and timing. They are not gonna listen to goverments requests and stuff, they have their agenda&plans and such that they will follow, that is how they stayed at top for 70 years. If TAF does not buy Arma2, it is not a big problem for them, they made their plans for export probably.
Also people that say they are not innovative or such is just clueless lol they invest immense amount of funding for r&d but on the projects they see most profitable and least risky and they are most capable. For only ecotorq they have invested more than 100m$. The reason they produce military engine now cause they had produced civilian one already, so it is little risk with max profit.
Why would a privately held company randomly start 1500hp engine when the most they have is 700hp on top that %20 of their company publicly owned which would not take this risky endevaour gladly. BMC is trying to produce batu powerpack cause they are literally pro-Erdogan group and they expect Erdogan will cover their loss in other sectors do you think Tosyalı is so happy cause he is in this shit, he is gonna lose a lot of money and might even totally fail. Koc is not pro-Erdogan or pro this and that. That's why they are on top for 70 years regardless of who rules the country. It is good they keep their capitalist rational mentality if they change it and follow random forum users mentality they will probably go bankrupt in 10 years lol or become a totally corrupt company that ask benefits from goverment.

Ali koç has spent almost 200 million euros for Fenerbahçe from his own pocket. For nothing.

200 million euros r&d is something for turkish defence industry. He is responsible for Otokar, he is a nationalist guy, after elections he should think about it :)

A question if mzk turret is doesnt increase m-60 turret weight and chassis add-on armors are minimal isn't 1200 hp engines from Uk. Even 70 tonnes Challenger 1 can go 56 km/h with 1200 hp engine. For 55 tonnes class it seems high.

On the other hand 1200 hp Perkins engine almost 20 cm longer and have almost 10 cm more height when compared M-60's current engine . So thats mean changes on chassis can be required.

But if it is a diffrent story when we are take 1200 hp Perkins for 3 manned 7 whelled new chassis with powered 120 mm mzk turreted new tank. İt's can be 60 km/h class more protected tank.

They started well with Altay and Milgem Corvettes. But their political affiliations have been their undoing.
Any big conglomerate like KOC or even SABANCI with available cash reserves and infrastructure, is capable of investing in defence industry. But number 1 rule is, for the state to support it. Not financially as per se but with promises of potential business and credit facilities.
Then they will seek JVs and invest in R&D and make it happen. But there has to be light at the end of the tunnel for them. A good example is BAYKAR, and to a certain extent KALE.
The cardinal rule when dealing with defence related companies has to be that they need to be kept above politics and political aspirations. Otherwise it is a non starter.

And why do you think a guy like Koc is throwing money this way? He is getting support from the fan base 😉. It is a well spent investment in my eyes if you want to influence millions of ppl.

We have several companies in defence top 100(2-6 depended on year)that's very good

but only KOC in fortune GLobal top 500.we as a country gdp ranking 18-22 that is not enough

We need at least 10 in Global 500

This thing should've been unmanned. If Germans are really planning to put 2 guys in this, they are indeed, stupid.

BTW we also make those. But Land forces being mum about it probably tells more about this concept than any PR material.

AFAIK Otokars vehicle is fully electric drive while German is hybrid.
Edit:
Otokar Akrep 2 could be hybrid..
Her arazi koşulundaki hareket performansının yanısıra eşsiz manevra kabiliyetine sahip araç, elektrik, dizel ve hibrit gibi alternatif güç gruplarının kullanılmasına imkan verebilecek bir alt yapıya sahip.

It has multiple powerpack options.

I hope MKE is aware of 30x113 mm HE for Atak2,and MMU,35x228 mm APDS for new type tracked armoured vehicles.

İbrahim Sünnetçi says BMC will enter the new tracked IFV program's 105mm gun section with a different foreign turret than Kaplan and Tulpar. Leonardo maybe?

This is the worst news I heard today. Aselsan has 35mm Korhan and Roketsan has 105mm MZK turret. I don't know why BMC went for a foreign turret. BMC can also develop its own turret MKE produces 105mm gun.

I think the next generation tracked IFV should be Otokar Tulpar. It has a lot of similarities with Altay.
BMC Power should provide the national powerpack.
Aselsan should provide Korhan turret
Roketsan should provide 105mm MZK turret.

We waited for the national power pack to be ready to procure IFVs and then procure them with a foreign turret?
Hopefully not true. That's the one thing people were always criticizing Otokar of, not going for the domestic solutions.
