The launches were carried out for demonstration of vertical launch capability as part of its maiden launch campaign.
On both the occasions, the missiles intercepted the simulated targets with pinpoint accuracy. They were tested for minimum and maximum range.
The VL-SRSAM with weapon control system (WCS) was deployed during the trials.
The launches were monitored by senior scientists from various DRDO labs involved in the design and development such as DRDL, RCI, Hyderabad and R&D Engineers, Pune.
The flight path and vehicle performance parameters were monitored using flight data, captured by various range instruments such as Radar, EOTS and telemetry systems deployed by the ITR, Chandipur.
The trials have proved the effectiveness of the weapon system and few more trials will be conducted shortly before deployment on the ships.
Once deployed, the VL-SRSAM system will prove to be a force multiplier for the Navy.
Defence Minister Rajnath Singh congratulated DRDO on the successful trials. Dr. G Satheesh Reddy, Secretary, Department of Defence R&D and Chairman, DRDO congratulated the teams involved in the successful flight test of VL-SRSAM Missile System.
Taking to twitter, Odisha Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik said, “Congratulate @DRDO_India on the successful launch of indigenously developed vertical launch short range surface-to- air-missile (VL-SRSAM)@indiannavy, off the coast of #Odisha.” As a safety measure, the Balasore district administration in consultation with the ITR authority at Chandipur temporarily evacuated 6,322 people residing in five hamlets within 2.5-km radius of the launch pad.
They were put up at the nearest shelter centres in the morning, a revenue official said.

VL-SRSAM will be in the same class of missiles as camm with range of 40km. With both land based and sea based systems built on the same chassis as the Astra air to air missile.

Any footage was revealed about test launch of the missile ?

Bro, can't find any video footage so far. I'll post here later if some video is released, but I suspect they will only release video footage in later tests since this is the first one etc.

India Conducts Successful Flight Test Of Solid Fuel Ducted Ramjet Technology From ITR In Odisha's Chandipur​

In a boost to India’s indigenous missile development programme, the Defence Research Development Organisation (DRDO) on Friday (5 March) conducted a successful flight test of Solid Fuel Ducted Ramjet (SFDR) technology from Integrated Test Range (ITR) in Odisha's Chandipur.
"All systems including the ground booster motor performed as per expectation," DRDO officials were quoted by ANI as saying.
The officials added that “during the test, many new technologies were proven, including the Solid Fuel based Ducted Ramjet Technology”.



The SFDR is a missile propulsion system that includes a thrust modulated ducted rocket with a reduced smoke nozzle-less missile booster. The thrust modulation in the system is achieved using a hot gas flow controller. The system utilises a solid fuelled air-breathing ramjet engine.
The success of SFDR propulsion technology is a significant milestone and will pave the way for indigenous development of long range air-to-air missiles in the country.
The first test of the SFDR technology driven missile was carried out in May 2018 while the second trial was conducted in February 2019

Besides this no other information is there maybe after sometime DRDO releases the video of test
Also this is the test of propulsion,actual missle test would be done later

Regarding the future astra missles(mk3) which would be based on this propulsion would have range of 350-450 km according to the information on public
And it somewhat looks like this

Do you think Astra mk3 is going to be like meteor?
There's still quite some time for Mk3 specs to come out but Mk2 is supposed to have a 160km range with a NEZ comparable to the Meteor

Initially ground tests are done and then air launched testing phase comes probably this would either be tested by the end of this year or next year

Worst case scenario "limit"....zero initial speed and sea-level air density....esp given it involves a booster to get ramjet condition needed.

I would assume it gives an initial envelope for future SAM application etc... too.

Given the pace at which DRDO's missile developments are going, this should be the last decade for any missile imports

Indeed DRDO is doing great work never expected it from a sarkari company,credit goes to Dr.G satheesh reddy the man changed the output of DRDO,he is a prodigy I think.
Though it should up its game on futuristic weapons R&D.

DRDO has always been solid on missiles for a long time....thanks to Kalam and team.

I lived my youth during the first prithvi and agni launches. It meant a huge deal. It has set up the base that is taken for granted now somewhat.

There are various DRDO labs that are good and even excellent...what is key is they are focused, have a good management and dont get too big/wieldy babudom projects.

i.e The plaguing issues at hand were stuff like vehicles, conventional propulsion, artillery etc....they didn't have a successful side organisation (like ISRO was to DRDO missile program) to really give good counter-feedback and more vertical + lateral RnD network on stuff....especially production side. Even where there was PSU that was relatively a "do-er" like BEL at least, there was a good sounding board for the teams at LRDE etc. This was the model that was needed more in the earlier days, so its plain to see where the hits and misses are now by the success and the voids we have.

This is being recognised and fixed slowly now (and private sector growth has been instrumental to delegate this), but its still quite a mess in lot of places. Then there is atrocious state of the ordinance factories for small arms and ammo. That is a den of all the worst babus stuck there.
