I honestly don’t know. While all the others have fancy roles in movies. We don’t see anything about MIT.

I personally don't think it's comparable to some of the intelligence organizations you mentioned due to the fact that they are military intelligence services. In terms of spy networks and scale it can't be compared to the ones in the list but in terms of capabilities I think the personnel are highly trained and experienced. The spy networks are not so huge just because Turkey till 2016 didn't actually needed so sophisticated international network (post cold war). They concentrated the foreign intelligence in the countries that Turkish soldiers were present, Central Asia, Syria, Iraq, Afghanistan, Balkans and Western Europe with highest priority of Iraq but biggest priority was given to counter-intelligence.

MIT have big successes but also big faults because of the infiltration by Gladio elements in the cold war and its hard transition from military dominated to civil dominated service. MIT also got exploited due to certain failed policies regarding the control/freedom of action and wrong exploitation of the chain of command. The problem is that when there are successes they are kept secret while when there are fails they are being blown with a horn. Some people are criticizing MIT over the lack of action in some hard events and presumed intelligence faults but the thing is nothing in Turkey is done without MIT knowing. MIT works when it wants and closes its eyes when it wants. That is my criticism to MIT.

After 2016 both the military and MIT undergone some critical changes due to the changing environment. MIT started rediscovering old allies and started activating its old spy networks all around the world including Latin America where there are Turkish interests to protect or where threat is coming from both internal and external. It got boosted in terms of technical capabilities and also new modernized larger facilities were made for them and also the general staff of the TSK. With the ongoing events on geopolitical level MIT will start to shine even more as it changed its engagement and intelligence concept to more proactive and offensive one. That was a concept that was highly defended by the martyred Director Assistant of MIT Hiram Abas in the years when the relations between MIT and MOSSAD were on a very high level and even Turkish counter-guerilla/counter-terrorism personnel were receiving training by MOSSAD. The difference is that today's Turkey has a lot of things to add to the concept that was defended by Hiram Abas and if implemented correctly in the next 10 years the Turkish National Intelligence Organization will reach even more heights and the hands of Turkey will become even longer. Turkey's stance over its national interests or threats to the national security changes and this requires also changes to the way security forces operate and we see it with our eyes. Both TSK and MIT have gone a long way after 2016 and I would say that MIT is a hell of intelligence organization with its capabilities.

We the public can never really know for sure but my own personal impressions are: in terms of tradecraft, the KGB was the best. Abwehr was poor. MI6 was middle tier - effective against the Abwehr but they had high level, long term penetration by the KGB, and probably at least 1 prime minister was under the influence of the KGB. CIA has a huge amount of resources, but in terms of tradecraft similar to MI6. Mossad and Pakistan's ISI punch above their weight. MIT's predecessor was effective up to at least WW2 (apparently they somehow found out German high level strategic plans showing Germany wasn't going to invade Turkey, which allowed Turkey to stay neutral in WW2) but became less effective during the Cold War due to instability and maybe also the influence of the US. Recently it seems to be improving a lot.

A great book I can recommend on this topic is Spy Wars, written by the CIA's ex chief of Soviet counterintelligence. Some mind blowing stuff in there.
