Enver Altaylı exchanged emails with CIA agents: Court

Enver Altaylı, a former official of the National Intelligence Organization (MİT), had exchanged emails with CIA agents, showed a detailed ruling of a court that handed him a lengthy prison sentence for political and military espionage earlier this month.

The 136-pages thick detailed court ruling included documents retrieved from his computer, such as the email exchanges between Altaylı and CIA agents.

According to the court records, in those exchanges, Altaylı disclosed state secrets.

In one of those emails sent after the failed coup attempt in 2016, Altaylı claimed that he was collecting information through his own intelligence sources on President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan.

In the email, Altaylı said he wanted to warn “his friends” regarding what he described as a shift in Turkey foreign policy direction, claiming that Erdoğan was steering Turkey toward the Shanghai Alliance.

Among the seized documents were Altaylı’s pictures with CIA agents Ruzi Nazar and Duane Clarridge, who were once stationed in Turkey.

Earlier this month, the court in Ankara sentenced Altaylı to a total of 23 years in prison for “political and military espionage” and membership in a terrorist organization.

He was detained and arrested in 2017 as part of an investigation into the FETÖ, which was responsible for the failed coup attempt.

The 16th High Penal Court announced the verdict on Nov. 8 in the case, which began in January 2020.

Accordingly, Altaylı was given 13 years in prison for political and military espionage and another 10 years for membership in an armed terrorist organization.

Another suspect in the case, former MİT official Mehmet Barıner, also received more than 20 years of prison sentences for the same crimes.

Iam honestly amazed on how rotten MIT was before Hakan Fidan took office

Reading these articles makes me feel as if MIT wasnt established for the purpose of serving the Turkish state and the interest of the Turks but rather it was established so that the West can keep a tight leash around Turkey

Makes me realise how sad it is Hiram Abas to be assassinated. If he was still alive, then MIT would have been transformed to an even greater entity

Well, you have to consider how much RTE FP has damaged Turkeys relations to understand that's what was the most important thing to prevent. RTE raped Turkeys interest by saying "Ummah" over and over again.

I'm not saying it's okay to be that rotten, definitely not, but they can't start killing their own citizens like A.C. or how Tansu had hitmen on the payroll.

Honestly, the only significant and biggest FP mistake by Erdo was supporting the Muslim Brotherhood even after El-Sisi was democratically elected for the first time. Other problems with France, UAE, Greece, and USA were inevitable and were bound to happen either sooner or later; and whether Erdo was a leader or not

I need to add that the fucking up relationship with Israel. Palestine issue is not our problem at the first place. And don't forget that they supported pkk and Armenia in the past. Years of rhetoric against Israel and supporting Hamas gained us nothing, and also didn't help a bit to Palestine. Making Jewish lobby in the US an enemy was a bad idea. I don't say go and lick their asses, but there was no need to make them hostile against us.

I posted about this in the other thread. They were surveilling Hezbollah terrorists. This means either:

MIT and Mossad are working together and someone in the administration wants to damage this
or

that there is no such Intelligence cooperation at all and we are instead protecting and harboring Hezbollah in our country, a proscribed terrorist organisation that is supporting Assad.

This is at the same time as Israel's operation in Jenin. It is suspicious timing.

Or they don’t ask for permission. Maybe one of Hezbollah works for MIT…

Celal Kaya, code-named Hasan, the PKK's "Iraqi intelligence officer" and the instigator of the attack on Osman Köse, our diplomat at the Consulate General in Erbil, who was martyred in Erbil, Iraq on July 17, 2019, was neutralized in a field operation conducted by MİT in Suleymaniye, Iraq.

Looks like a maklube enthusiast, this one.

Turkey: Book reveals Israeli intelligence deals cancelled in 2010

Turkey cancelled its intelligence cooperation deals with Israel in 2010 following the Gaza flotilla raid, when Israeli soldiers killed nine Turkish citizens and wounded 50 others, a new book has revealed.

The book, The National Intelligence Agency 1826-2023, written by Turkish historian Polat Safi, explores how Turkey had established closer relations with Tel Aviv in the 1990s and how that cooperation evaporated as Ankara sought a more independent foreign policy in the region.

Safi, who was able to read through the Turkish official security archives in a year-long study, writes that Turkey moved closer to Israel, as Ankara needed regional partners to fight the Kurdistan Workers’ Party (PKK) in northern Iraq in the mid-1990s.

Ankara first signed F-4 fighter jets modernisation deals with Israel and then military cooperation agreements followed in 1996.

A year later, the cooperation was moved a step further. Turkey's national intelligence agency MIT and Mossad signed a crucial human intelligence cooperation agreement on 2 May 1997, which allowed both secret services to dispatch and manage informants and personnel in each other’s countries, provided that the other party was informed in advance.

The deal was groundbreaking because it effectively allowed Mossad to undertake intelligence operations in Turkey.

Safi writes that relations between Turkey and Israel took a negative turn in 2008 after Ankara decided to deepen energy cooperation with Iran, in order to cut its gas reliance on the Russian Federation and Azerbaijan.

Ankara’s attempts to broker an atomic deal between Iran and the West further eroded Israeli-Turkish relations.

Turkey, at the same time, was accusing Tel Aviv of not upholding the conditions set by the 1997 deal.

Bilateral relations were going through difficult times after Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan walked off the stage after an angry exchange with then-Israeli president Shimon Peres during a pencil discussion on Gaza at the World Economic Forum in 2009, blaming Israel for killing children and civilians.

Finally, on 25 May 2010, just four days after the new MIT Undersecretary Hakan Fidan took office, Israel raided the Mavi Marmara ship carrying humanitarian aid to Gaza, killing nine Turkish citizens and wounding 50 others.

“MIT hardly benefited from the HUMINT protocol, which was signed twice, on May 2, 1997 and January 17, 2001," Safi wrote.

"On the other hand, Israel had directed and managed personnel in Turkey since the 2000s and had mostly avoided informing MIT while carrying out these activities, contrary to the terms of the protocol."

“Moreover, according to MIT, Mossad was abusing bilateral relations and conducting third country operations from Turkey. By 2010, when there were signs that Mossad not only violated the protocol provisions, but also abused the protocol, MIT intervened and accordingly Mossad would close its liaison office in Ankara towards the end of the year."

"The closure of the Mossad liaison office meant that the close relationship of nearly half a century between the Turkish and Israeli intelligence, which was generally uneventful despite its ups and downs and had its golden age between 1990-2000, came to an end.”

Safi says the first signs of Israeli displeasure against Fidan surfaced in Haaretz on 7 June 2010 where Israeli sources blamed Fidan for working closely with Iran and then-Israeli Defence Minister Ehud Barak told Israeli Army Radio that he was worried that classified Israeli information could end in the hands of Iran following Fidan’s appointment as MIT head.

However, the Turkish-Israeli intelligence work later helped both countries to resolve their issues. As their cooperation grew again in 2020, Ankara and Tel Aviv normalised their relationship with Israeli President Isaac Herzog visiting Ankara the next year.

Turkey and Israel also planned for an official visit by Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu this week to Ankara, but his pacemaker surgery and the domestic crisis within Israel prompted by his judicial reforms postponed the trip.

I'm looking for some analysis about MIT's new policy changes after Kalin İbrahim's lead. What's changed when we compared with Fidan? Any recommendations for articles about that folks?

A Palestinian hacker, Omar Z. M. A., reportedly hacked Israel's security umbrella, the Iron Dome. Mossad initiated action to capture Omar. The kidnapping operation along the Tel Aviv, Istanbul, and Kuala Lumpur route was thwarted by the Turkish National Intelligence Organization (MİT).
