Everyone has heard this tune somewhere in passing, but I certainly didn't know its name (I was looking for another elephant music song).....but now I do heh:

@Nilgiri rate this one.

10/10 (for studio version)....this live performance is good but loses a bit of the intensity imo (like lack of the extra long glorious outro like in studio version), so maybe around 8/10...i'd up it if I was actually there live ofc heh...

I am biased towards this song having grown up to it (my dad brought back casette tapes of stuff he taped on radio when he visited europe in his earlier days)...and I grew up listening to those some years later.
The german version of it is also just as good!

99 luft balons is another famous one from the era/genre (german 80s pop/synth etc)...also alphaville "forever young" and many more...Falco had a bunch of good ones (helloooo, woah-ohh... vienna calling... la-la-la-la-la-la-la!).

Honestly dunno why some ppl diss 80's music a lot, I could name a huge list of great songs and bands from the era....would take too long actually. 80's (esp. pop wise) to me has a very distinct sound, more unique than any other decade imo

Your song (major tom) was the intro theme song for the show "Deutschland 83" btw, a very good show I enjoyed watching....recommended one if you like late cold war spy stuff etc. For a year or two some time back I was absolutely obsessed with East Germany.

@Kaptaan @xenon5434 @T-123456 @Kartal1 @Saiyan0321 @VCheng @Joe Shearer @Vergennes @UkroTurk et al.

Modern talking was another 80s german band.....my bud @Yankeestani is a bit of a tankie so knows this one I think heh

Love all that stuff. Time travel to my youth. Always gives me a big smile. To me that is what music is all about.

Breakfast Club with Modern Talking. A perfect anti-dote to rainy days.

I literally get the taste of metal in my mouth when I hear its beginning each time....(I'm not such big fan of its proggy 2nd bit, I often just listen to the first part only repeatedly lol).

The whole article gives good context+summary....and they got this conclusion spot on (I am a huge classical fan too):

Thirty years on, ‘Orion’ still sounds alive. It’s still uncompromising and beautiful, still a perfect collaboration between vibrant musical imagination and raw thrash metal attitude.

It’s the closest Metallica have been to echoing the classical influence that’s always been somewhere in their make-up, and yet it’s also indicative of a continuing connection with thrash.

It booms with aggression even by today’s standards.

RIP Cliff...

heard your president is big fan of Metallica @Indos @HeyPaula1963 @AlphaMike et al.
