Taiwan’s National Chung-Shan Institute of Science and Technology (NCSIST) has refuted a report from Liberty Times that a new variant of the its Teng Yun unmanned aerial vehicle (UAV) has flown.
Liberty Times said the testing took place at Hualien air base on Sept. 16. The drone was filmed making a flight for 10 minutes. However, the configuration shows it was still the first iteration of Teng Yun.
The new variant will be installed with the Honeywell TPE331 turboprop engine and has an air intake between the vertical fins.

Two Teng Yun prototypes - which have been marked MU-1611 and MU-1612 - possess an operating range in excess of 1,000 km, flight endurance of 24 hours, and ceiling of 25,000 ft (7,620 m). These vehicles have been proven capable of performing autonomous navigation as well as automatic take-off and landing during extensive flight trials since their introduction.
