Really?, the briefing I was at said the design phase is a significant time away from moving to the next phase of the project as there are several issues being solved. Certainly not "soon". One is weight as we saw the 32 VLS drop to 24 which is obvious and that was confirmed by LM staff at DEFSEC. I don't think its a matter of secrecy but one of need to know and the public will know when the government wants those details released. Most of the incoming fire is coming from armchair admirals who worry about the positioning of arrays and minor details and seem genuinely miffed when the government didn't inform them . Plenty of information out there to satisfy the public in my opinion, do we need to start posting plans? and meeting minutes? All civilians need to know is the design process is continuing IAW the officially posted timelines. I know stuff because I'm at meetings that these things come up. I hope your "friend" didn't tell you things that you as a civilian shouldn't be knowing.....
Are you "current" CAF Ted or perhaps work for LM or the government with that kind security clearance? As the DEFSEC 2021 Forum (5-7 Oct 2021) at the Halifax Convention Centre was for world Defence Industry companies (including Lockheed Martin) Canadian Government cleared and regular CAF members only, there "may" have been some "classified" briefing updates from LM on the CSC Frigate design phase, but if so, the 'Stuff" you know should not be divulged outside of those briefings, if they in fact did occur. You are absolutely correct that the public only gets to know what the government wants them to know, and that in fact, is part of the problem. Having to drop down to 24 MK 41 VLS cells to decrease the weight of the CSC Frigate is nothing new and certainly not classified. You don't need to start "posting plans" as you say but at least give the Canadian people the information they "should" know and not be so secretive. The USN has regularly published much more current information on the USS Constellation class than any other class including the CSC Frigate, Hunter and BAE Type 26 Frigate classes although the Australians & British too seem to be much more open than the Canadian government. The positioning of the SPY 7 radar arrays is a big deal for the RCN. I know because I was a "scope-dope" for all 41 1/2 years of my RCN life. My "friend" is just that, a life-long one that would not divulge anything classified even to me but he at least gave me the unclass information on the CSC Frigate program design. Yes, I am now a civilian, but still very interested in our future frigates. By the way, my SC while "in the mob" was much more than you have right now including TS. Have A Great Navy Day mate!
