New photos of the 5th generation J-35 stealth fighter based on aircraft carriers under development by China have been released.

Based on the FC-31/J-31, the fifth-generation fighter is expected to operate on the new Type 003 aircraft carrier currently under construction.

The FC-31 first appeared in scale model form in 2011 and a demonstration aircraft flew in October 2012.

The F-35 canopy opens forward because of the F-35B (lift fan too close to the cockpit)variant. What is the reason the J-35's canopy opens forward?

Reports say this new jet is stealth material coated with serrated stealth designed nozzles, which means the jet is fitted with Chinese domestic engines, the new photo also shows the big design changes were made comparing with the original landbased FC-31, The positons of the electrical Interface and refueling ports are moved to human height position which would make refueling and maintanence more easier on deck.

Why do the canopies of the Rafale and Saab Gripen open sideways? :)
The cockpit of the J-35 seems to be deeply embedded into the fuselage - far more then e.g. a F-35 or F-22 - so a front hinging makes sense.
The present layout of the J-35 cockpit-air-frame could also suggest the possibility of a future 2 seater version - such as the J-20's loyal wing-man version demonstrates.
As for the latter I am not sure as to which direction the canopy opens up.
