As part of an exercise organized by CREC (Centre de Recherche des Ecoles de Saint-Cyr Coëtquidan), Optio, Ultro and Nerva could be used by EMIA students to assess the operational gain brought by the use of robots during different defensive and offensive scenarios.
Test conducted with a Nexter Optio-X20, an armed version of the Estonian-made Milrem THeMIS UGV (Picture source : Twitter account of Nexter)
Optio-X20 robot is the armed version of the new range of Versatile Tactical Robots Optio from Nexter. Armed with the Arx20 cupola, this tracked UGV with open architecture is specially designed for protection tasks perimeter, combat group escort, target acquisition and target engagement. With the ARX 20, equipped with its automatic cannon of 20mm and its 7.62mm machine gun gyro-stabilized in site and in bearing, Optio-X20 is capable of process soft targets and protected targets ranging up to level 4 (STANAG). Based on Nexter's know-how in the field of weapons and robotics, Optio-X20 fits operational monitoring needs, protection, security and combat missions, on modern battlefields, as much as in urban areas.
Test conducted with a Nexter Ultro UGV (Picture source: Twitter account of Nexter)
Ultro is a cargo carrier UGV which, at IDEX 2021, was displayed as an ammunition carrier for 155mm rounds, thus intended to go along the CAESAR self-propelled vehicle.
A multipurpose mini-robot for reconnaissance and support to operations, Nerva LG can be integrated into combat systems. It is a robust and reliable mobile platform, intuitive and very easy to use. It can be used for remote observation, detection, destruction (IED), manipulation, jamming, triggering (tripwires), etc. It is particularly well-suited for reconnaissance and opening up of potentially dangerous areas (IED or CBRN threats) easy to deploy, launchable and with a high-speed capability. It can be reconfigured within a few seconds on the field, with no special tools (wheels/tracks, payload, batteries). It can be deployed and used by mounted or dismounted personnel, using a control station with advanced ergonomic capabilities. It also forms a natural extension for operational vehicles.
