The Nigerian Army said its troops deployed in Kaduna State have successfully neutralised six terrorists and recovered a substantial cache of arms.

In a statement on its X handle on Thursday evening, it said the operation, which targeted identified terrorist hideouts in the Birnin Gwari general area, is part of a special clearance mission aimed at restoring peace and security in the state.

“In a counter-terrorism operation conducted on Thursday, 13 June 2024, troops of the Nigerian Army conducted a thorough clearance across Maidaro, Ngade Alha, Dogon Dawa, Damari, Saulawa, Farin Ruwa, Maganda, Sabon Layi, and Kampanin Doka villages. Troops made initial contact with the terrorists in Saulawa, where two terrorists were immediately neutralised. During this encounter, the troops recovered a Baofeng radio and a motorbike,” the army stated.

It said the mission continued with further combat engagements in Farin Ruwa, where the troops neutralised an additional four terrorists.

The post on X continued: “The gallant troops also recovered a General Purpose Machine Gun (GPMG), two AK-47 rifles, six AK-47 magazines, one FN rifle magazine, 22 rounds of 7.62mm (NATO) ammunition, 51 rounds of 7.62mm (special) ammunition, and another motorbike.

“The successful clearance operation underscores the Nigerian Army’s commitment to eradicating terrorism and ensuring the safety and security of the citizens in Kaduna State and other trouble spots

And that's just a tip.

If the Nigeria army can sustain these present gains on the frontline, we will reduce insurgency to it nearest minimum by 2026.

Hopefully, yes. I surprised how terrorist got their on Aselsan anti drone system.

It is "ghanimah", a captured system. Turkish supplied G3s and PMT machineguns are also very common. I think we also saw MPTs, MKE HRE rocket launchers etc. It is very unfortunate to see.

Two people were reportedly killed when an Improvised Explosive Device exploded at Mile 40 along the Maiduguri-Monguno Road in Borno State on Sunday.

It was gathered that the tragedy occurred when the farmers stepped on the IED planted on the road. The incident occurred around 9:10 am on Sunday, June 30.

A security analyst and counter-insurgency expert in the Lake Chad region, Zagazola Makama, made this known on his Social media account on Sunday, noting that the use of IEDs by the Islamic State in West Africa Province (ISWAP) indicates weakness rather than strength.

Zagazola explained that ISWAP's reliance on IEDs suggests that they are weak and their conventional militants' capability has been depleted.

He said, “The use of IEDs is often a tactic of desperation, employed by ISWAP, because they lack the manpower or firepower to achieve their objectives through conventional means.”

He added that unlike in the past when they could attack military bases and towns, they are now only adopting defensive strategies to stop troop incursions into their enclaves.
