ISLAMABAD, Pakistan

Pakistan on Friday refuted the Indian media reports that Pakistan army is fighting alongside the Azerbaijani forces against Armenia over the occupied Nagorno-Karabakh.

In a statement, Pakistan Foreign Ministry said such reports are “irresponsible, speculative and baseless".

However, the ministry, reiterating its country's position on the issue, stated Pakistan is deeply concerned over the deteriorating security situation in the Nagorno-Karabakh region.

“The intensive shelling by Armenian forces on civilian populations of Azerbaijan is reprehensible and most unfortunate. This could compromise peace and security of the entire region. Armenia must stop its military action to avoid further escalation," said the statement.

"Pakistan supports Azerbaijan’s position on Nagorno-Karabakh, which is in line with the several unanimously adopted United Nations Security Council resolutions," the statement added.

On Tuesday, some Indian media outlets reported that Pakistani soldiers are fighting along with Azerbaijani troops against the Armenia aggression.

Border clashes broke out early Sunday when the Armenian forces targeted Azerbaijani civilian settlements and military positions, leading to casualties.

Relations between the two former Soviet republics have been volatile since 1991 when the Armenian military occupied Upper Karabakh, an internationally recognized territory of Azerbaijan.

World powers, including the US, Russia, France and Germany, have urged an immediate halt to clashes along the frontier.

Turkey, meanwhile, has voiced support for Azerbaijan's right to self-defense.

Four UN Security Council and two UN General Assembly resolutions, as well as many international organizations, demand the withdrawal of occupying forces.

The OSCE Minsk Group -- co-chaired by France, Russia, and the US -- was formed in 1992 to find a peaceful solution to the conflict, but to no avail. A cease-fire, however, was agreed to in 1994.

I honestly could give less damn about what these ex-Soviet republics and Churkas are doing with each other I know Pakistan has a "pan-ummah" fetish despite its 3 best buddies are Atheist China, Secular Turkey, and Post Soviet Azerbaijan but why would Pakistan want to get itself in a conflict zone typical Indian level propaganda by the Armenians here but on Pakistan's part I think its idiotic we dont recognize Armenia as a country even though Turkey broke off ties and sealed their border with Yerevan in 1993 due in part for the Karabakh issue its still recognize Armenia as a state and a country we are the only ones that dont wtf is this stupidity we could sell arms to Azerbaijan and be solidarity with them but get off this pan -"ummah fetish" please

If Pakistan can have ties with Greece where loads of illegal Pakistanis migrants work in the farm and agriculture sector which is Turkey's biggest nemesis why cant we have ties with Armenia not even ties but at least "recognition" you dont even have to have a presence or a embassy have a resident ambassador based out in Moscow or Baku

This is what India is expressed in countries. Notice one state in India is equal to all of Pakistan.

I think Pakistan would not have recognized Greece if for the sole reason that when you apply for UN membership, you are providing Dejure recognition to the states that are already members of the United Nations and Greece was one of the founding members and Pakistan was applying thus there happened to be automatic Dejure recognition and you cant take Dejure recognition back. Incase of Israel and Armenia, well the former became member in 1949 and the latter in 1992 and we were members by then so we had the luxury to not recognize those states. So moral of the story is that the only reason greece survived the Ummah love was due to the fact that our hands were tied in that matter.

Well no matter whether you used Islam as a slogan or a threat but the masses ate it up and they truly saw Pakistan as synonyms with 'Guardian of the Islamic world' and 'Laboratory for Islamic reforms'.

Of course as a UN state Pakistan had the prerogative to do that and when Pakistan enters the game, ummah love swiftly follows so Armenia a christian republic in a conflict with two Muslim countries and stating that one of them had committed a genocide on them decades ago was obviously not going to be recognized by the great guardian

Still how many countries Pakistan has ties with that are rivals with their "allies" Taiwan ok "One China Policy" we have ties with Cyprus not the TRNC however Pakistan did had ties with TRNC in the mid 1980s then broke off ties again the psuedo Pan Ummah schtick is the reason why Pakistan is seen as very bad at foreign affairs
