I also don't see the recent news about cooperation on air-to-air missiles as being too far away from this deal. The Turkiye-Pakistan-Azerbaijan triangle is becoming increasingly clear. Gonna guess 12-16 Aircraft.

Just as a comparison Mynmar paid half a billion for 16 Block 2 JF-17.
Nigeria paid close to 200M for 3 Block 2 JF-17.

That would be interesting, but I am little bit surprised if Azerbaijan actually chose it. Given how I was always hearing, JF-17 is a very poor aircraft. Defective avionics, poor engine performance, structural problem, etc, all that is being talked in Indian defence circle.

well... I wouldn't follow American aircraft developments from the Russians..
JF-17 is a low cost fighter for the 21st century with some real improvements. Threat to Azerbaijan comes from Armenian and Iranian Sukhois. JF-17 B3 can deal with those. B3 includes an AESA radar, HMDS, IRST and few other avionics seen in the J-10C. Add the increased Turkish and Azerbaijani cooperation in the possible Azerbaijani model, and you get a nice fighter to supplement Su-25s and drones.

I mean, I would fervently oppose Turkey buying JF-17s. It's an aircraft Pakistan wanted to replace F-7s and Mirage 3s with. Its other customers are Nigeria and Myanmar. It was always designed to be the low in a hi-lo mix. And Pakistanis clearly class it below F-16s and J-10Cs. But if it fits your needs and budget, it's good enough.

The important thing is that it enters the inventory. Once it is in the inventory, we can modernize it and integrate AESA radar, avionics and sensors. However, you can't fill the bottom of a plane that doesn't exist. It is a good thing that we have 2 extra squadrons of aircraft that could pose a threat to Greece in 10 years' time.

It is a decent aircraft for the money. IMO the best gap solution for Azerbaijan until Kaan with indigenous engines becomes available for them.

They can’t procure from the west, they could from Russia but probably don’t want to, leaving only China/Pakistan for them.

Maybe could have gone with the J-10 but that would have most likely cost them more.

JF-17 Block 3 makes the most sense in the current situation. They can built a nice little fleet and then later add Kaan to it in low numbers giving them pretty much air superiority over its neighbors for decades to come (Armenia,Iran)

Also Pakistan is more open to letting them integrate Turkish missiles and bombs on it as they themselves would benefit from it. By having access to another source for munition if needed.

Definitely very capable aircraft for its price level no doubt.

I just don't trust this source, bigger sources would have given a big lead up for a cpl weeks (this and that guy is visiting Azerbaijan etc)

Yes i meant cost effective. But here We have been reading for a long time about Azerbaycan interests to this aircraft.
