Greece Analysis The negative result of the competitions for the new frigate of the Greek Navy

The release dates of the first Dutch frigate Karel Doorman(class M) according to exclusive information are postponed for much later than the expected time point that the Hellenic Navy had as information. Thus the first Dutch frigate will be available for transfer to the Greek Navy not in 2022 but at the end of 2026. This drastically changes the image we had for these competitions and the plans of the Navy executives who will have to turn in some other intermediate solution. Of course, these concern decisions taken by the Dutch Navy as the Belgian Navy that operates with this particular warship announced that it will release this class at the end of the decade! The Dutch company Damen, cleverly moving, proposed the construction of 2 light frigates Sigma (class 10514), which could be delivered by 2024. It is definitely a solution with less operational capability than the other frigates. The British have to offer directly to the Greek Navy a Type 23 frigate which will be modernized with CMS, CAMM missiles and the 3D radar Artisan 997. It is certain that the next frigate could be available to the Greek Navy after the 2023, and of course always based on the needs of the Royal Navy. This means that hopes of replacing the non-upgraded Kortenaer are likely to be dashed, and ships will have to be withdrawn without a replacement. Even if one or two Type 23s are taken by the Greek Navy, they will have to fill the gaps from the modernization of the Greek MEKO200HN, as one or two ships will be permanently out of service for the needs of modernization.
Personal opinion:
The reason why i do not create articles for so long, as a moderator, for the competitions of the Greek Navy, i think is now obvious. It would be very attractive to "fill" the Greek forum in Defense Hub with articles. However, writing things that are not realistic is considered irresponsible and a false reproduction of news.

What about the French,US and German offers?

The French FDI frigates are ships that will come in 6 years so we can not pay 3.5 billion euros as an intermediate solution. The US with the Ticonderoga frigates is a very good solution but not feasible because the ships with all the strategic weapons at their disposal will not be given.

In my opinion, everything will depend on the economic situation of the country at the end of the year. Speculations are pointless. Leasing is a good temporary solution.

This would be a good choice if we were going as Greece to strategic know-how transfer agreements with France, the Netherlands and the USA with the aim of developing-building a purely Greek frigate. The leasing would make sense if the Greek Armed Forces were going in a direction of total remodeling of the weapons systems it has with purely Greek weapon systems and platforms on land and at sea. But if Greece goes to the option of leasing without a long-term plan to restructure the weapons systems with co-productions and transfer of know-how, then these ships that will come and go, what will be replaced when the contract expires? Leasing has an expiration date and the possibility of acquisition by the user is controversial when we talk about military technology. It will certainly give a short-term breath to the Greek Navy but until when?
