( MENAFN )Local authorities stated on Wednesday, April 28, that the gross domestic product (GDP) of southwest China's Tibet Autonomous Region hit 47.57 billion yuan (about USD7.3 billion) in the first quarter of this year, as it increased 17.5 percent year on year.

According to the regional statistics department, in spite of the effect of the coronavirus epidemic, the area’s average annual GDP expansion for the last two years reached 8.9 percent by the end of last month.

The value-added production of main industrial enterprises in Tibet augmented 27.6 percent throughout the period, as it increased 15.7 percent from the first quarter of 2019.
Its fixed asset investment increased 25.5 percent year on year, and augmented 25.9 percent over the same period of 2019.
