Usually we don't allow memes or funny images on serious posts. However this one can stay.
I think that seems proper. What we are seeing is unprecedented. We must bear in mind this is not just few idiots causing trouble. These people are actually representative of millions of Americans. And their head honcho, President Trump did got 46% of US vote and only few percentage points below Biden. This tells us America is a very divided society. All your seeing here is manifestation of that reality.

I hope that people here who incline to the blind secularism and western type of democracy are watching this.
Yeah well USA is neither secular nor democratic for that matter...

New York Gov. Andrew Cuomo refers to storming of Capitol as "failed coup attempt."

"The cornerstone of our democracy is the peaceful transfer of power." "We must call this what it actually is: a failed attempt at a coup. This is the final chapter of an incompetent, cruel, and divisive administration that has trampled on the Constitution and the rule of law at every turn, and we won't let President Trump, the members of Congress who enable him, or the lawless mob that stormed our nation's Capitol steal our democracy. The election results are clear and the will of the American people will be carried out."

Absolutely shocking. Unbelievable. For students of history this is a seminal moment. Great powers did not die in one day but slowly faded and degraded over time. Are we seeing the begining of the end for US imperial power?

For me the scenes remind me of a softer version of Moscow 1993 coup.

The USA has made so many strategic blunders in the past few decades.

They support a rag-tag terrorist group instead of their biggest NATO ally. Just makes you think if there is any cohesion in Washington, personally I think they've been running around like a headless chicken.

Almost every large, powerful country is growing weary of their sh*t.

Imagine wanting to counter Russia and China, meanwhile you support the enemy of the second largest NATO military, thus pushing them towards cooperation with Russia and China. They do this instead of working with Turkey to gain a foothold in Central Asia.

It's just ridiculous.

The only thing keeping them and their military afloat is their economy. If their economy collapses the entire country will descend into chaos. Think the scenes from today are crazy? When the big crisis hits them the country will turn into a war zone. The division between ethnic groups and political leanings is already there, the weapons are plentiful and hatred is in the air. The only thing keeping the peace is an abundance of wealth. Once that goes, and scarcity rolls in, the USA will be a ticking atomic bomb.

I guess that many Americans feel like the Turks during the failed coup attempt against the elected government. It's like you're paralyzed until the naked hatred kicks in and you're starting to think that a purge is not as bad as many people think. Come to think about it, it's practically a second Turkey day for the US of A.

I absolutety agree with you. Wealth is a amazing dopamine . If you look at the oil rich kingdoms in Middle East the underlying stability is provided by wealth. Democracy contrary to coomon refrain is not as a strong a calling as wealth. If the tensions you see in USA for instance were replicatd in poorer countries like Pakistan there would be civil war. But to be sure this event has exposed deep divisions in US society. these faultlines run along ethnic, economic, ideaological lay of the country. This is a dangerous time for the world because like it or not the modern order pivots on US power.

magine wanting to counter Russia and China, meanwhile you support the enemy of the second largest NATO military, thus pushing them towards cooperation with Russia and China. They do this instead of working with Turkey to gain a foothold in Central Asia.

Very true. It is escapes logic. USA did the same thing with Pakistan. A close ally that helped it in the war against USSR. Then kicked it in the shin.

There is irony in all what we are seeing. Having spent lot of time on forums dominated by Americans I noticed lot of them hated Muslims. They had never met one in their life but had been brainwashed to hate Muslims. When they found out I was British-Pakistani they did not hide their hatred and talked of "threat to Europe from Muslims". They were living in New York but were more concerned about the Muslim threat to "Western civilization" from Muslims and talked of the fall of London to Muslims after Sadiq Khan became mayor. They talked of Germany and France falling to the "muslim invaders".

The irony? There is no Muslim threat to Western civilization. No threat to USA from Muslims. 2020 saw Trumps right wing hilly billy mobs invade the Capitol Building and earlier in the year Black mobs burning US cities. I did not see a single Muslim.

Oh just want to add one other thing. These same Americans screaming at Muslims held up one particular 'Muslims' as koshur. Yep you got it the Kurds. They touted them as freedom loving spartans that needed Western support.

Former President George W Bush condemns today's 'insurrection'

1609977383582.png

Former President George W Bush has issued a statement on the "scenes of mayhem" unfolding in the US Capitol.

"It is a sickening and heartbreaking sight," the Republican wrote.

"This is how election results are disputed in a banana republic – not our democratic republic."

Bush continued, saying that he was "appalled by the reckless behaviour of some political leaders" since the presidential election, but stopped short of calling out President Trump or his supporters by name.

In his own statement Republican Senator Mitt Romney went a step further, condemning today's "insurrection, incited by the President of the United States".

Those who support Trump, Romney wrote, "will forever be seen as being complicit in an unprecedented attack against our democracy".

President Trump has yet to condemn the rioters who broke in to the Capitol building but has asked people to remain peaceful.

@VCheng Would you say that President Bush Jr is implying that USA is a 'banana' albeit a wealthy banana?

The US has been a banana republic for the last 6 months. From the gross mishandling of the corona virus crisis, to people rioting and burning police cars, state and private property over a dead convict and statues of people dead some 400 years ago,to misguided rednecks goated by the Looser in Chief to storm Capitol Hill

I am very disappointed....

Final thought of the day: Can you guys imagine if these mobs had been Blacks? Every gun., every bullet would have been fired. By nightfall there would be shortage of bullets and bodybags in USA. In USA you get killed for giving a fake dollar note but for 'invading the Capitol' building you get to do selfies so you can brag to mates back home "I woz there".

God bless freedom.

The other "side" basically burned down whole cities for 3 months unchecked, so no need to pity them. The US is thoroughly divided, their economy is a Ponzi scheme ready to burst....might as well ask terms from the CCP now...

I was not in any way condoning the "other side" who basically just went savage. Floyd was nothing but a criminal who had threatened a pregnant woman with a gun. But I was merely making comparisons in terms of reaction.

And as you will know it even spread to UK when it had nothing to do with it.
