Turkish Aerospace Industries (TAI) is days away from opening the world's 4th largest composite factory, the company said in a statement Thursday.

TAI has already been designing and producing important composite parts for the leading global aviation companies like Airbus and Boeing.

The new generation factory is designed to be an autonomous facility and will be put into service soon. It will use artificial intelligence (AI) to eliminate possible errors in composite material production, the statement added.

TAI added that it continues to deliver as the "design owner and sole source manufacturer" of aileron used in the Airbus A350 aircraft. Flag carrier Turkish Airlines (THY) has recently included two of these aircraft in its fleet.

The aerospace firm, which has delivered 500 sets of ailerons to Airbus to date, has also accelerated the design of the composite flight control surface and strengthened its place in the market by designing and producing original products.

Continuing to work with the vision of zero error in production, the company has been designing and producing ailerons, which are important flight control surfaces used in tilting movements for Airbus A350-900 and A350-1000 aircraft since 2012. Both are among the biggest new generation passenger aircraft.

Within the scope of TAI's A350 Airfoil Program, in which 500 engineers and technicians took part, four carbon composite ailerons, each 5 meters long and 1 meter wide, are produced for each aircraft.

Turkey's giant composite plant began production in Ankara

Turkish Aviation and Space Industry AŞ (TAI), which is equipped with the latest technology and global aviation Turkey's unique aviation projects started production facility will be held in Ankara composite production giants.

TAI completed its new composite investment with a closed area of approximately 100 thousand square meters with an investment of 181 million dollars in its central campus in Kahramankazan. The facility, where structural parts of aircraft such as aircrafts and helicopters will be produced, will meet 2 percent of the world's air structural composite need.

TUSAŞ Composite Manufacturing Manager Emre Eriş said that the company started production in the new composite building.

Stating that the procurement process of some of the high-tech equipment to be included in the building has been completed and their installation continues, Eriş said that they reached the level of 70-80 percent in this sense.

Eris pointed out that the new composite building was not established to replace the composite facilities previously used, and said:

"This building was thought of as a facility that will increase our current composite production capacity by approximately 2-2.5 times. There are works already taken from companies such as Boeing, Airbus, they will be done in this facility. A certain proportion of the structural parts of our own original products will be produced at this facility. These are issues related to the future of our company and the country. When we consider the future of composite in the long term, thermoplastic is a particularly popular topic.

Production for Gökbey, Boeing and Airbus

Eris stated that all composite parts of the Gökbey helicopter and the movable control surfaces of Boeing's aircraft will be produced at the facility, and that the design and production activities undertaken by TUSAŞ in the Wing of the Future Project, where Airbus is working on a wing concept that can be used in all passenger aircraft, will also be carried out at this facility.

Stating that they attach great importance to localization as a company and that they include all domestic benches capable of meeting the needs of their customers, Eriş said, "The best example is autoclaves. We bought autoclaves from Sistem Teknik. It is a domestic product with its software and automation system. With our work, Sistem Teknik can give these benches to any composite manufacturer abroad. " said.

Stating that the procurement process of some of the high-tech equipment to be included in the building has been completed and their installation continues, Eriş said that they reached the level of 70-80 percent in this sense.

Eris pointed out that the new composite building was not established to replace the composite facilities previously used, and said:

A certain proportion of the structural parts of our own original products will be produced at this facility. These are issues related to the future of our company and the country. When we consider the future of composite in the long term, thermoplastic is a particularly popular topic.

The first target is 2 percent of the world

Pointing out that TAI has an important share in the world composite market with its production quality and knowledge, Eriş made the following assessment:

"We expect the share to increase even more with this capacity increase. The target is about 2 percent of composite aviation structures. This is a significant figure. This is a figure demonstrated by today's work. With this facility, we are investing in the future in terms of thermoplastics. When things start to shift to thermoplastics in the next 10 years." We will be one of the leading companies. this facility will give us that advantage. thermoplastic meaning we will be getting will be done with maybe 2 percent on it. even companies in the aviation hubs around the TAI directing, just not the TAI, the greater Ankara and Turkey The target and our employees are in this direction. "

Emre Eriş pointed out that many innovative technologies and concepts are used in the new composite building and that the transfer of the examples here to the auxiliary industry is an important achievement.

Turkey will be the showcase

Stating that the facility was specially planned, Eriş said:

"This is not just a building made of composite production was planned to provide logistics activities from here. Seriously a paint shop, was integrated into the non-destructive inspection systems plant. Considered in the huge scope of work was carried out step by step. TAI of the new composite buildings, Ankara even Turkey When a world-class company comes here, we want to create the prediction that 'I will give this job blindly to TAI, and TAI will direct it to the auxiliary industry companies as required.' We expect to work, we aim to create a serious employment with the auxiliary industry by doubling it by 2, 3, 5, 10. "

First application area of new technologies

Composites Manufacturing Manager Türker Dölek said that the composite field is an area that is constantly developing and the latest technology should be followed.

In this direction, Dölek stated that as TAI, they always try to keep up to date in composite design, production and technologies, and even to lead the development of that technology, "The places where some technologies are applied and come to life are always our facilities. In our new facility, many projects are currently ongoing. We are continuing to work to take the current technology one step further. " said.

Explaining that they have carried out several projects for the production of parts that are mostly needed by the designers and the aviation industry, reducing fuel consumption, increasing efficiency and reducing costs together with integrated composites, Dölek used the following statements:

"These are the projects we carry out shoulder to shoulder with the biggest players in the aviation industry. If you do the composite business with traditional methods, after a while you have no place in the market. If you want to make room for yourself and think about the future, you always have to go one step further. we support our products. "

All processes were evaluated with simulations

Dölek emphasized that the new composite facility is a structure that is integrated in terms of digital, software and technological machines and will lead its field.

"We aimed to make this a facility that carries the whole sector in the position of a flagship and takes it somewhere." Dölek said:

"The 5-axis or CNC machines we use are equipped with the highest level of software possible. These are powered by smart software and the improvements given by artificial intelligence. Both digital transformation and our design teams are trying to make the whole process as efficient as possible. The aim here is both to the best product and the fastest. and to be successful by getting ahead of our competitors by forcing our means, bringing the sub-industry, technological advances in our country and our geography to a place and being successful. "

Stating that the facility will operate on an area of approximately 100 thousand square meters, Dölek stated that all stages here have been previously evaluated and confirmed with simulations. Türker Dölek, "A special facility, our pupil. I have been working at TAI for over 16 years. It is proud to see that the process is progressing step by step and things are coming here. All the parts we make fly, this is my biggest motivation to come to work. Some of them even get into orbit. This is a great source of pride. It is a source of pride for all of us to raise this bar one step further, to advance it a little further with this facility and new technologies. I hope we can get off the heavy burden we have taken on our state and our nation without being embarrassed. " he spoke.

There is a big potential in Turkey to become a mayor global aerospace manufacturer. We have the experience, workforce, geographical location and connections to the big companies. Aerospace sector is money, forget agriculture, tourism oil or gas.

Same with the shipbuilding industry...

Bu ekonomiyle bunlar nasıl yapılıyor?

TAI has it's own budget and those are neccessary investments for the Industry, to me it looks like ordinary people feel the impact of economy but the state not really that much.

Still, it is beyond me how much we advanced in the last decade. There are clearly far richer and developed countries on earth and now it says this will be the 4th largest. I mean composite isnt some joke neither. Today, it is all about stealth and entire stealth comes down to 1)design 2)composite technology. Actually 4th largest may not necessarily mean 4th best.

Also drone is essential in modern warfare since it is all about proxy wars and they already consider Turkey 4th in there too (after US, China and Israel).

Hopefully these are no propaganda. Drone investment is seemingly paying off though.

I opened a thread about education. Thinking some here with experience from the industry could share their pov regarding future prospects. Though no one seems to want to share. Ismail Demir was kind enough to mention it in his interview about future prospect for engineers but also vocational school graduates from technical lines.

HR is important, but also having qualified workforce.

SSB has special funds for R&D projects.
Hopefully the conspiracies behind the diyanet money are right :D
Our defense gdp may actually be twice the size what we think!
Defense gdp: ~20 billion, Diyanet: 12.3 billion.

Do fundings of organisations, proxies and intelligences within other countries fall under defense gdp?

Edit: Not million, billion silly me. Also diyanet is 12.3 billion in 2021.

Typical funds from taxes, lottery,alcohol-cigarette etc. a portion of it also submitted from state awarded contracts and under control of SSB and the right holder company.
Not related to Diyanet budget i presume.

If the state would make cuts from of useless wasted money and invest everything in R&D etc. than you can't even imagine what the Turkish Industry can achieve.

I just refuse to believe diyanet spends all that 13 billion solely on its written duties. Did you know that imams dont even get paid from diyanets money? They are technically state officers and they get their salaries from the same place teachers, policemen etc are getting. I just checked and diyanet controls 270 of 2300 mosques in France, 900 of 2800 mosques in Germany, 146 of 475 in Netherlands, 70 of 300 in Belgium and over a dozen in US. It also sends imams to Sweden.

If we arent using any of these to form an espionage network and lobbying...

Well if the turkish state pays the salary of imams it makes sense that EU are talking about their own imams.

But the places of worship normally are financed, by contributions and some domestic government support. You can build mosque with state support, but like here in Denmark it means your mosque becomes a political target. Though I guess it doesn’t matter much given the islamophobia in these times.

we all should know that turks outside of nation do use turkish imams this may let you think state pays them but its a good investment:

- you keep control of your people and can influence them
- you make shure that they have a place of turkishness (
that is one BIG thing people underestiminate it.. these paces are part of life part of local turkish traditions people meet there people talk there in turkish and that keeps them connected with turkish language belive me turks are stubborn people we in our mosque make it not easy for other follks because we still dont want to give up our language till our imam is on top of the mimbar he will keep talking in turkish meanwhile turks get a minority there butits run by us so we keep our language there.. and for me europeans know this and thats a thorn in their eye so they want their loyal people to influence our people, they want that we use their language (easier to spy on one step more to forget your identity) for me this places are one of the reasons why many turks didnt end up like all the people like

hans XYZkov
peter XYZzwick
natalie XYZwitz
hans XYZovanni

so you dont really see a Hans Demirtas and thats because we people love our nation, we used sattelite to watch turkish TV we have gone to the turkish tea house, to the turkish mosque and so on...... so we shgould not underestiminate such little places and things that connect us to our home..

our country investing in such things is a good thing

for islamophobia I can only say its something they want! its something they choose! its nothing in your hand! they want to be like this they need this! its because of their own internal beeing and feelings not because of us or anyone else.. they choosed islam as an enemy and they demonize islam.. they invent lies they invent enemies.. we turks are there in germany lets say from the 70ies: didnt they learn that we are no threat? all the stuff happened after US decided to take islam as the new enemie.. so they began to make false flag attacks, to lie, to invent new groubs, while in the reallife US and EU are the agressors the invaders the Killers the mass murderers with weapons of mass destruction.. the supporters of death...

but the people have a broken sence they are high up with their noses and think they are a superieor race so they are not guilty.. sometimes we have to say the truth and this is it..
