Spectacular footage of a Turkish F-4E Terminator 2000 fighter jet, made in the US, has been released. The F-4E Terminator 2000 fighter jet is in a special livery dedicated to the 50th anniversary of the aircraft's operation in the Turkish Air Force. The McDonnell Douglas F-4 Phantom II fighter jet was created in the US in the late 1950s, and production of the aircraft was completed in 1981. The Turkish Air Force has been using F-4 fighter jets since 1974 and has upgraded the aircraft several times. F-4 aircraft are currently in service with the Air Forces of Iran, Greece, South Korea and Turkey.

The F-4 is an old plane, but I like its design. I had a model of this plane when I was a kid.

Germany has begun the sale process of Eurofighter Typhoon fighter jets to Turkey after initial opposition. A “sales authority” has been mandated to work on the potential sale of 40 jets, which is expected to accelerate the process, Reuters reported, citing a Turkish defense ministry source. “Technical work is continuing regarding the procurement of the Eurofighter Typhoon jet, which can be an alternative to meet the operational needs of our Air Force,” the outlet quoted the source as saying.

This demonstration was not only to showcase the talents of Turkish pilots, but also to show that such an old system is maintained and kept up to date. They really did a great job!

Great, now they will not give back the 1.4 billion for the f35, they wont give modernization packs which would have arrived earlier than f16s, delay the delivery of anything to us by more years, and tell us they might give f35 and not give that as well. You could also divert the money for the 40 new F-16 towards the planned purchase of the 40 EF Tranche 4 or towards other purchases.

Abandoning the 40 F-16 in favor of 40-42 F-35A (with 6 coming out of storage) makes more sense.
Interesting choice, still do we have a more "reliable" source on this supposed quote?

You could also divert the money for the 40 new F-16 towards the planned purchase of the 40 EF Tranche 4 or towards other purchases.

I know there are older f16s that will age too much, but those are mostly getting özgür. Unless we used some of the block 50s so much that they are better replaced than modernized which I doubt

Seems weird to me, as I know the most used aircrafts have undergone life-extension by TAI with kits deliverd by LM making sure they are able to serve for another 10-15 years. Those are also the ones which will undergo Özgür and not be modernized or at least were planned not to be modernized by the 79 kits.

Now we will be left again without any aircraft that is uptodate until the first Block 70 F-16 is handed over or the first F-35A or the first EF Tranche 4, all of which will take at least another 4+ years to happen. Other than the 6 F-35A in storage which could be handed over quickly the Air Force will be left standing waiting for almost half a decade to get new blood in.

Like I said weird choice. I always expected that we would find ourselves back into the F-35A but I would rather see them cancel the 40 F-16 put an order in for 40-42 F-35As and keep the kits.

Also if this happens and Türkiye gets back into the F-35 people should expect the Navy to divert towards the F-35B for its AC plans.

I think he talks about the fact that F-16V production line is busy with orders from several customers. So it may take 4-5 years until Turkey starts to recieve them, based on other contracts.

Another thing would be possible manufacturing of some of them at TAI maybe? But no indication for that.

Maybe we also get an approval for modernizing all of our F16's with Özgür 2 program? That would make sense to abandoning Viper kits.(That leaves the question that why getting the new F16V's at all though? Maybe to using American weapons or just part of an agreement to getting approval for our own modernization?)

We need their permission to equip those aircrafts with our own products.

Third F35 is problematic and very expensive aircraft + will be 24/7 under US control and even if they give it for cheap is not great idea to keep it in your airforce .

If they control or deny access to our F35s remotely, it would have huge consequences for them and it would not just be us. I can't imagine such a scenario happening except maybe using the aircrafts against Israel.

we don't have such leverage on the US.

it's a fucking disgrace to think that we would keep ourselves in the supply-chain and earn billions while having a few squadrons of F35 in our airforce if it weren't for that bloody S400 blunder. That S400 move deserves a few dissertations in the academy. two thousand years of state-mind my ass.

Most likely this means that the modernization of the F-16 will take place in Turkey. There is no need for modernization kits.
