Are those busses electric aswell ? I only knew about aselsan temsan collab.
Yes both are electric buses. And Karsan's e-Atak is both electric and level 4 autonomous.

Well that's frustrating to hear that my Tesla is level 2 autonomous while there are already buses in serial production on level 4.

About Nuclear Power in Turkey

  • Turkey has had plans for establishing nuclear power generation since 1970.
  • Recent developments have seen Russia take a leading role in offering to finance and build 4800 MWe of nuclear capacity.
  • The country's first nuclear power plant, at Akkuyu, commenced construction in April 2018.
  • A Franco-Japanese consortium was expected to build the second nuclear plant, at Sinop.
  • China is in line to build the third plant, with US-derived technology.
  • A small uranium mining project is planned.

There were about 3 Nuclear Power Plants planned in the past Decade

Akkuyu > Russia
Sinop > France + Japan
Igneada > China

Reactor Types and Locations

Akkuyu Nuclear Power Plant

The official launch ceremony took place in April 2015, and the first unit is expected to be completed in 2023

Sinop Nuclear Power Plant

In 2018 the project was abandoned due to construction costs having almost doubled to about $44 billion

İğneada Nuclear Power Plant

In October 2015 it was announced that İğneada had been selected as the third site.
Technology will come from US based firm Westinghouse Electric Company in the form of two AP1000 and two CAP1400

Additional Info:

Even though the Japanese fell through in 2018.
In September 2020 the Ministry of Environment and Urbanisation approved the final environmental impact assessment report for Sinop.
In August 2021 Fugro completed a six-month offshore site characterization project in support of broader feasibility studies for the project.

I Think it is safe to assume that the Sinop Location will be used for the 2nd Russian NPP.

The Reactor type would be the updated Russian VVER-TOI instead of the VVER-1200

Info on Reactor:

The VVER-TOI is developed from the VVER-1200. It is aimed at development of typical optimized informative-advanced project of a new generation III+ Power Unit based on VVER technology, which meets a number of target-oriented parameters using modern information and management technologies.

The main improvements from the VVER-1200 are:

  • power increased to 1300 MWe gross
  • upgraded pressure vessel
  • improved core design to improve cooling
  • further developments of passive safety systems
  • lower construction and operating costs with a 40-month construction time
  • use of low-speed turbines
The construction of the first two VVER-TOI units was started in 2018 and 2019 at the Kursk II Nuclear Power Plant.
In June 2019 the VVER-TOI was certified as compliant with European Utility Requirements (with certain reservations) for nuclear power plants.

I just noticed here Erdogan says 2 Units will be operational in 2023.
The Plan was one Unit each year from 2023, 2024 and so on.

More Information on the 2nd Nuclear Powerplant in Sinop have emerged.

The investment cost of the Sinop Nuclear Power Plant Project, which is planned to be built by the EUAS International ICC Center Jersey Islands Turkey Central Branch of Elektrik Üretim AŞ in Sinop İnceburun, and will consist of 4 reactors, will be 20 billion dollars .

While the final Environmental Impact Assessment Report (EIA) of 3,222 pages for NPP is approved, the process will accelerate after the evaluation of the objections regarding the EIA.

REMARKABLE DATE: PLANNED TO BE COMMISSIONED AFTER 10 YEARS

Excavations at the site are planned to start this year, while the first reactor is planned to be commissioned 10 years after the start of excavation works.
Uranium dioxide will be used as fuel in the nuclear power plant.

A PROJECT COMPANY WILL BE ESTABLISHED

While it is stated in the EIA report that "Sinop NPP Project is a Project of the Republic of Turkey and Sinop NPP will be built and operated by the Project Company to be established", the entire area allocated for the project consists of 10 million 58 thousand square meters.
Approximately 1 million 25 thousand square meters of this area is planned to be used as a power plant area.

THE TOTAL INSTALLED CAPACITY OF THE POWER PLANT WILL BE 4 thousand 560 MEGAWATTS

The project will consist of a total of four pressurized water reactor nuclear power units, each of which has a net installed power of 1,140 megawatts. The total installed power of the power plant will be 4 thousand 560 megawatts. The useful life of each reactor will be 60 years from their commissioning. The annual amount of electricity produced at Sinop NPP is planned to be 34 billion kilowatt-hours.

Quite Similiar to Akkuyu in Terms of Reactor Output. What seems to be interesting is 10 Years till Commissioning which is quite a long time.

But I think the Catch is that it is stated in the EIA report that:
"Sinop NPP Project is a Project of the Republic of Turkey and Sinop NPP will be built and operated by the Project Company to be established"
> Rosatom was operating AKKUYU NPP for 15 Years but this one might be operated national from the get go.

I just hope we'll get some know-how for uranium management or reactor design from this one. Akkuyu's management deal is very one-sided.

I am just Concernd that this will simply be too little too late.

According to the MENR (2019) report, Turkey's electricity energy demand in the 2019-2039.
In 2030 Turkey's electrical energy demand was projected as 515.4 TWh.

Already In 2021 Turkey Consumed 327 TWh

"While 290.8 billion kilowatt-hours of electricity was consumed in Turkey in 2020, this figure increased by 12 percent to approximately 327 billion kilowatt-hours in 2021."

Hypothetically

Energy Consumption in 2030 = 515 TWh

AKKUYU NPP - 35 TWh
SINOP NPP - 34 TWh

So the share will be around 13%.

TR nuclear plants are planned to provide baseline power, with the rest of demand coming from wind and hydro and such. Those figures ain't that bad.
I'm pretty sure Elon Musk's yearning to sell some Megapack's to Erdogan as well, so they got that for a backup plan as well.

There are supposed to be two more nuclear power plants planned but they will probably get going with the second one before they move on with the third one. Also the possibility of Thorium based nuclear can play a big role if the project advances to a mature state. I believe traditional fission based nuclear plants will be no more than 4 once Thorium plants become feasible.

According to Yusuf AKBABA (known source inside the SSB) claims that Western countries have begun to ease the defense industry embargo, which they have imposed on Turkey for the last two months, albeit to a limited extent.

Canadian-based companies and a few companies from Europe have conveyed to Turkish companies that they can give products that they have not given before due to the embargo. Before the process is fully clarified, I will not be able to give information about the name of the company before the trade starts.

The biggest reason for this ease that has been experienced for two months is shown as the normalization process with Israel and Armenia.

Turkish Armed Forces still prefer Canadian Wescam EO, so that one will likely be relevant.
Pratt and Whitney PT-6 Engines for Hürkus and AKINCI, especially now that Ukraine is occupied.
Canada is training most Pilots for Turkish Heli and Aircraft Programs at TAI.
Turkish HavaSOJ program was also a Cooperation with Canada.

Just so they can use us as cannon fodder againts Russia the moment Russia retreat from Ukraine embargos will be re-applied.I hope goverment wont be that naive.

Currently at least 3 American bases building upon on our border in Greece.Americans declared those bases mission profile is anti-Russian in nature its not againts Turkiye. But since Russia invaded Ukraine not a single movement observerd from those bases.People must understand importance of bases and what they present.

You can rest assured that there will more nuclear power plants after these. Most likely, these will be of Turkish designed based on the knowledge gained by these first reactors. The reason why we went with 3 differnt designs was to gain as much experience as possible since no one will give/sell you any knowlege on nuclear power plants. A single design would have been far cheaper and faster if the goal was just to get energy.

The end goal is to design and built NPP but we are talking about 20-40 year plans here.
