Live Conflict Turkish Operations in Northern Iraq

It is incredibly useful to us. Iraq is under Iranian control on the most part. It is easier to build bases in KRG territory than Iraqi territory to secure it from my point of view. They are also probably the only real anti-iranian anti-PKK group (KDP). The energy and construction opportunities is a nice bonus.

Turkey invested a lot in KRG territories. There are people that thought for that long before us. KRG is totally dependent on Turkey and it is not a realistic approach for them to even try and break that status. They are good as it is. Now what we should work for is to also keep them dependent on Turkey for the future.

Independent Kurdish State with such a potential is not something we want on our border. I have nothing against the Kurds in general and I respect their existence as an autonomous region in Iraq but we should not deceive ourselves. KDP are not working with us on a brotherly relation basis but out of necessity. We have many opportunities in regards of strengthening our relationship in order to counter PKK, PUK and Iran in a swift manner but we should also be careful because there is a deep pain in the majority of the Kurds in the region and that is the lack of independent Kurdistan. We should pressure them as much as we can on the prevention of that and also take all the possibilities in terms of investment and soft power we have in order to influence the normal citizens there.

Iran is going to take Iraq otherwise and the Kurds are sitting on the most rich parts of Iraq other than Basra. Water, agriculture, oil, gas. They are already pretty much an independent state almost. I think the resistance to this idea is a hindrance on our foreign policy and domestic politics.

If this nuclear deal with Iran goes ahead and some sanctions come off, Iran becomes a more viable partner for the KRG again. There is already some internal partnership between the two in Iraq. The KRG are very flexible and have been very good at drawing in investments (until the ISIS crisis). Keeping them dependent has largely been successful only due ISIS. This will change slowly. It is good to get ahead of these things.

We have stronger ties with KDP than say, Iraqi Turkmen Front. The more we invest in them as is, with oil and soft power, the more they will challenge for independence anyway. The weaker we keep them, the more strength groups like the PKK have and the more they will align with opposing powers.

The Barzani's father, Mustafa who fought against Saddam told his sons the importance of a relationship with Turkey. It was pretty smart of them to achieve what they have with Turkey.

KDP, PUK or PKK it doesn‘t matter all of them have the same goal and none of them is hiding it.

But we can build bases, we can get construction deals, oil etc. WOW what a nice bonus... how tempting.

Every nation has goals, some ridiculous. Not all of them can achieve it. Who cares what they say ? they are 6 million in KRG. They will never be a threat. Independence however circumvents Iraq (Iran) in achieving certain things.

The Turkish Republic also not asked for terror from ur country. Fact is ur country isnt strong enough to control this region, also not the terror. So Turkey will do it himself. There is nothing to discuss.

KRG is everything but „pretty much independant“ and why should Turkey support the partition of Iraq? Why creating and recognize another Armenia? Because they are „friendly“ towards Turkey because, investments, oil?
All the points you mentioned here make no sense it‘s just wishful toughts you can keep for yourself or just sympathy but it‘s against Turkish interests.

In fact a independent fake Kurdish state is more dangerous than PKK could ever be.

No you won't. We have to recognize that for the Iraqi establishment it is impossible to deal with that threat.

For years the Central Government have been turning a blind eye on them because of PUK and even employed them with salaries. When Turkey threatened operation in Sinjar the only thing the Central Government managed to do is integrate them under the popular forces, rebrand them under the instructions of we know who.

The KDP in the name of peace between the Kurds also don't have balls to act independently and the only thing they could do is supply intelligence and talk. Tell me what we should do? We bomb PKK positions in Sinjar Iraqi soldier is killed. What is your explanation? I will tell you that. The only way for Turkey to secure its borders is to be the hammer of a joint KDP intelligence and TSK large scale operation targeting all of the PKK camps in Iraq and the best thing for you would be to sit and watch. Turkey is aware of everything. The best thing for the Iraqi Government is to at least not position its forces together with PKK so they are not accidently harmed.

Drones that are designed for this and carrying heavier and more sophisticated munitions are coming after all. Other than that TB-2 can be used in combination with land based system and in that scenario the limitation will be mostly E/O gimbal's laser designation range and atmospheric conditions.

The Turkish Armed Forces are conducting a serious operations in Zap, Metina, Avasin, Basyan and Gara at the moment. Fighter jets, UAVs, attack helicopters and artillery units are conducting strikes on identified targets.
