According to this site, Türkiye has more or less consolidated an agreement if last stage on the purchase of 24 Qatari and 10 Omani Typhoon jets is finalised.
According to this news Türkiye is choosing to purchase second hand jets in order to get possession of them quickly in place of some of the 40 planes they were to have manufactured.

This seems to deviate from those news that suggested 40 + used quantities.

Oman only operates 12 EF Tranche 3A fighters. Why would they hand 10 of those over to us. I also believe they are not equipped with any AESA radar? Not sure though.

So Qatari EF have Captor-E (AESA) while Omani fly with Captor-M (MSA) . Huge difference.


This news makes no sense. Oman has no reason to hand over 30% of its Air Force to us and we have no reason in being interested in 10 year old EF which are not even equipped with AESA Radars.

The only other country whose EF would make sense for us are Kuwaits.

There are no viable 40 used aircraft to be had in the first place. It seems TurAF already ended any thoughts of T1s in numbers years ago. Maybe 1-5 test aircraft that won't be combat ready.

There are some talks of Omanis having issues with maintaining their EFs; which is interesting; because they already employ actual Brits to maintain and sometimes to fly them via Ex-RAF pilots. Unless they are strapped for money, how does that work? But regardless, if they are thinking about offloading them, what does keeping 2 aircraft for themselves achieve?

Omani T3As with their Captor-Ms are still very potent aircraft with now outdated tech; but still better than anything we have for A2A. And they can be modernized to have Captor-E.

That mean Turkiye will buy 34 ısed jets + 40 new ones ?? Total 74 ?

We don't know. One idea could be to gather all these Gulf EFs from these 3 countries, and the 12 Qatari T4 slots from BAE. But EF Consortium hardly earns anything in this plan. A Turkey with only used aircraft and half a squadron worth T4s would thinker with them heavily in 5 years.

One idea could be to get the Qatari T3As, send the Omani T3As to be modernized to BAE, and get the 12 Qatari T4 slots as well as some number of a fresh order. In such a plan, Qatari aircraft would come to Konya in 2026, modded Omani birds would start from mid-late 2027, and fresh builds from 2028.

I don't think idea is to just a total of 40 aircraft, we would see at least 50-60 in time.

It is refreshing to see some realist decision making unfolding these days.

- F-16s are not enough to protect our skies against F15s or Rafales let alone F35s, even with AESA radars

- We need twin engines pure air superiority aircraft

- We cannot rely on neither single type of aircraft (F-16s) nor single country (USA)

- Kaan may very well be encounter some delaying problems

- There will be always engine procurement problems regarding KAAN, KE and ANKA 3, until our engines enter the serial production phase

- KE will be great (altough I am personally a strong believer towards it), but has a long way to go.

- Yes, it costs too much but in time of possible need, weak airforce costs everything

If these are the points (which can be easily increased), 20 or even 40 EFs would be inadequate to encounter our adversaries. If these recent news are true, 3 or 4 squadrons would be excellent.

That news on Aksam doesn’t say there will be 74 Typhoons. Read that original news piece again.

It says : instead of having newly manufactured planes we will buy ready second hand jets.
“We wish to purchase some of the 40 plane order as ready second hand planes”

No ,money is not problem at all , officials have requested that they want 120 new jets 40 f16 , 40 f35 , 40 eurofighter . The problem is that the sellers dont let us use software codes for our own weapons and upgrades without asking for permition .
F35 US will never give them to use as we want i am agaist buying them , Aslo f16 since we have some 240 we can upgrade ourself all of them
İ am pro buying eurofighter as stopgap but not only 40 , 120 will be perfect and since we are too late thats why Turkiye buying urgernt second hand ones

Many countries retain even the most obsolete military equipment. The Ukrainians even have a Maxim machine gun from World War I. Anything can come in handy.
Over time, both fighter jets and pilots become obsolete. But they represent a very valuable reserve. In wartime, if 50- or 60-year-old pilots are called up, they will have a hard time retraining on new, more advanced fighters. Therefore, they will have to fly older ones, such as the F-4.

It's better to have 200 obsolete aircraft than 100.
Quantity matters, too.

The Eurofighter fighter jet purchase has reached its final stage. The final signatures will be made during UK Prime Minister Starmer's visit to Ankara next week.

New generation Eurofighters currently in production for the Royal Air Force will be sent to Turkey.

Under the agreement, Turkey will also acquire Eurofighter fighter jets belonging to the air forces of Qatar and Oman.

The fighter jets to be procured from Oman are planned to be delivered to Turkey after modernization by the manufacturer.

With the signing of the agreements related to the Eurofighter procurement process, the training and adaptation processes for Turkish pilots will begin.

Yeah, and they work against what exactly? (I am talking about old Ukranian 27s and 29s) They are useless against Russian aircraft. What they do with their 27s and 29s are comparable to what we are doing with F-4s...

So the good news is that acc. to NTV Omani EF will first be modernized and then handed off to TAF.

Guessing they will be upgraded to Tranche 4. Meaning we will have depending on the number of EF taken from Qatar (24+12) + Omani (10-12, see no reason why Oman would keep two of the EF if they are not being able to actually operate them) 48 EF Tranche 3A/4 in the inventory.

I am sure that Omani Typhoons are better than any F 16 apart blocks 70, maybe? Also, F 4s can be retired and Typhoons are lot better than those. Omani Typhoons can take loads of F16s. Type as they have longer range, can be parked furtherer away, it complicates thing for adversaries. Also, the planers of the potential adversaries, must take into account the existence of the squadrons which haven't existed before. I just hope that EFs aren't too expensive. The best thing would be , if by end of 2026 THK can field a squadron of those. And let's not forget that due training of THK with Qatari Air force, I think that THK is already somewhat familiar with EFs.

NTV: New generation Eurofighters currently in production for the Royal Air Force will be sent to Turkey

There are no RAF EFs in production, they didn't place any new orders. Only order that is currently on the BAE line are the 12 Qatari T4s. RAF is yet to order anything. They do not have any orders. Unless Oman or Qatar orders a follow up after we take theirs, only future order BAE is to see is probably the Turkish order.
