The United Arab Emirates, users of the Leclerc tank for more than 20 years, have decided to give free of charges 80 of their tanks to Jordan.

This number should allow the Hashemite Kingdom to equip two of the four tank battalions belonging to the 3rd Armored Division.

This large unit is in fact made up of two brigades, the 40th Armored Brigade (King Hussein) comprising the 2nd Tank Battalion (Royal Tank Battalion) and the 4th Tank Battalion (Prince Ali Bin Al Hussein); The second brigade, the 60th Armored Brigade (Prince Hassan) consists of the 3rd Royal Tank Battalion and the 5th Royal Tank Battalion.

These two brigades were transferred to the Jordanian central command in 2018. All these units are equipped with older tanks such as the Tariq (Centurion), the M60 A1, the Al Khalid (Chieftain), or the Al Hussein (Challenger1).

At peace with Israel, Jordan however remains confronted with an unstable environment with Syria and Iraq, countries with many tanks, some of them of the latest generation such as the T-90.

The UAE approach certainly favored by relations between the leaders of the two countries has also benefited from the normalization of relations between Jerusalem and Abu Dhabi, undertaken for several months and materialized by the recent agreement between the two countries.

The quality of French products are always questioned. On the other hand, German products are known with their excellence. These two will always be rivals but I prefer Germany in this competition.

But overpriced.
Newly produced western tanks cost more or less same (around 10 mln today). German Leopards on the other hand mostly were sold from German army stocks.

'' This is France’s main battle tank and currently the most expensive tank in the world. Figures on the cost of this tank vary greatly depending on who you talk to. Critics within the French government say each Leclerc has cost France $23 million or more. Companies who build and upgrade these tanks give a more conservative (but still ridiculously high) figure of $12.6 million per tank. The Leclerc entered service in 1992 after 15 years of development and trials. The tank uses modular armor which can be taken off and replaced quickly. The armor is a composite of steel, ceramics and Kevlar. Protection on the roof of the turret and sides is very thick and the tank even has redundant electrical systems to ensure survivability. Like other Western tanks, the Leclerc uses a 120mm smoothbore gun and 1500 hp engine. It only has a crew of three and uses an autoloader very similar to the one used in South Korea’s K2 Black Panther, reportedly able to fire 12 rounds per minute. Advanced optics and computer systems make this one of the best tanks in the world – and the most expensive. ''
I m sure you've heard/read somewhere what the Altay will cost us?
The official figure is $13,75 million per unit but it looks like we are going to pay $17 million per unit which is ridiculous.
The Merkava IV costs $6 million per unit?

There was claim in some magazine that Merkava 4 costs 20 mln shekels, thats around 6 mln dollar. But that was very old report plus figure is very rounded. I guess actual figure today is around 10 mln $.

Leclerc front armour protection againts heat and apfsds low when compared leopards also French apfsds ammo's penetration levels less than German dm-53 and 43
These armor and penetration figures are mostly pure speculations. I like about Leclerc its low turret profile and seperation between crew members which increases survival in case of penetration. Plus they have good weight reserves to increase armor protection.

The way I read this news:

Israel has just ordered the UAE (Arabs) to send 80 tanks to Jordan (also Arabs) so that Israel can order Jordan in the near future to attack Syria and Iraq (again, also Arabs) on its behalf because Jew lives are so much more valuable than Arabs.
Attack Syria and Iraq with 80 tanks
It's only good against a militia group but facing 2 countries with small amount of tanks is weird tho btw uae have a long history to give weapons to Arab states especially jordan

Come on guys. You know as well as I do that nothing happens in Israel's immediate periphery that doesn't serve Israeli interests in some way. If not now, in the near future. Especially if we're talking about the involvement of a state(let) like Zayed's UAE (e.g. Israel's puppets).

When I said "to attack Syria and Iraq" I don't mean they'd go ahead and invade them with 80 tanks. But build up their forces to cause attrition and put pressure on Iranian-backed forces. Again, to serve Israel's interests first and foremost.

Jordan has pretty good relationship with Turkey, if not there would be no Aselsan Middle East.
That's neither here nor there. Israel has added Turkey to its "list of hostile states" for a good reason. They consider us a bigger threat than even Iran now.

These are video game numbers. Thanks to modular design and large weight reserves Leclerc can be easily uparmored.
