Not good, the only advantage is storage compactness but disadvantage is transitions can turn out to be problematic. You can remove the wings for compactness instead and transition only in pitch axis for better reliability.

I think the 1st prototype of TB-3 doesn't seem to have the foldable hinges on the wings. PT-2 clearly has them.
I may be wrong though.

I think we all want to see more Kızılelma and Anka 3 videos. I especially can't wait to see them being mass produced.

Fingers crossed we will see Kızılelmas with Turkish airforce roundels this year.


Apart from Anka 3/4 and Kızılelma, a I'd love to see two new types of drones:

1) A VTOL CAS and loitering munition mothership drone:

(Ignore the design above, it's literally a VTOL from Crysis) Essentially a jet or rotary wing VTOL drone which can provide traditional CAS similar to a helicopter, but is also capable of launching and coordinating kamikaze drone attacks.

We have quite a few loitering munition products such as Kargı and Alpagu. We've obviously observed how effective these types of weapons are over the past few years. BUT, generally these are operated by soldiers who are relatively close to enemy. This simply makes them impractical for mountain warfare for numerous reasons.

A mothership VTOL drone with an advanced sensor package could serve as as a "mastermind" through which dozens of loitering munitions can be controlled via SATCOM. This would allow us to launch mass attacks deep into enemy territory, including strikes into PKK caves where which Kargı's or other drones switch to their fully autonomous mode and wreak havoc on all terrorists within.

We need something like this to completely eradicate PKK in the mountains.

2) A low flying A10 or SU-25-like CAS drone:

Purely for shock and awe.

The US is looking for fast VTOL flyers. We need such flyers too. One that can fly from the helicopter port of any navy ship and can reach half a mach or more.

While I like and agree with the first concept, I think this is pretty pointless and a waste of resources when everyone and their mums seem to have manpads. And not just manpads, but systems like Iran's 358 missile will become more available as well.

To save cost on 50k missiles you'd be risking several millions worth drone. Warfare has moved on from A 10 and its kind of close air support, there is no need to go back in time.

There's a constant battle between weapons designed to destroy vehicles and countermeasures... Whilst I agree that both ground and air vehicles, especially helicopters are more susceptible than ever before, they aren't going anywhere.

I'd honestly say that jet-powered VTOL aircraft could host comprehensive countermeasure packages with 360 degree coverage. They could have hardkill APS similar to tanks, Atom 40mm turrets or something similar to MSDM. The possibilities are endless.

At the end of the day, I see my first concept as an evolution of attack helicopters. As susceptible as helicopters are, they're still a force to be reckoned with. There isn't really an alternative to them currently. Fixed wing drones and multirole fighters/bombers are great, but neither of them can clean up the battlefield as meticulously as an attack helicopter.



As for the second concept, yes it's completely impractical. But it's f*cking cool.

Mini drone less than 1 kg including payload with target lock+homing capabilities would be good in that mothership, 1-3 km range or more if possible.

Targetting /upload data by mothership, ANKA or any other platform capable of having the sensors etc.

Today CAS planes doesn't have to enter in range of MANPADS in order to destroy MBTs, IFVs and artillery.
Why do you think CAS drones must have just Gatlinggun which could hit in 2-3km?

What about jet powered fast CAS drones with long range ATGMs? Could Bayraktar TB-2 or ANKA scramble rapidly attack and run away? Patrolling for long hours over the front line, TB2s are more vulnerable against Short range Air defense as enemy could send mobile SAMs.

You can not always dominate airspace for your slow drones so you would also need tactical rapid strike drones.

Moreover, SUNGUR loaded , jet powered CAS drones -which are maneuverable and fast -could rapidly hunt other tactical drones.







BTW we have already got jet powered UAV!!!

Just need to add take off and landing capabilities .SUPER ŞİMŞEK XL could carry several UMTAS.

I think they should be. Because old passive radars cannot detect static targets.
Yes they have IIR cameras.Thermal imaging can be deceiving on Earth, especially during the summer months. In winter, snow and rain interfere with thermal imaging.

Now you will say "There are AESA radars, they can see everything." So next question How will the AESA radar, which only looks straight ahead from the nose, scan the surface ? How could it map moving or stationary targets?

Gripen's rotating AESA radar was designed for this purpose. Turning it to the left and right, the RADAR creates a map of landscape . By turning its radar, it can lock missile on stationary tanks or buildings.

So KAAN, Hürjet , Kızılelma and other UAVs -which have MURAD AESA radars - should have different shaped - moving MURAD AEAS for air to ground missions.

What a pity we don't have aviation engineeers or veteran fighter pilots here. We should ask everything to @Anmdt

What about side mapping and side attack capabilities of UAV?

Or we should put 3x AESA plates which more expensive than the UAV?
