@Dmitry could you please explain what is going on in Belgorod/Russia?

"RDK keep control of Novaya Tavolzhanka, Belgorod Oblast.

“Since Governor Gladkov cannot control his territory, we will talk with his leadership, which is located in Moscow.”

Lavrov, get ready, you are going to negotiate with the rebels 🤡"

❗️In Novaya Tavolzhanka, during a joint operation of the forces of the RDK and LSR, the senior of the operational group Belgorod, colonel of the guard Andrey Stesev, was killed. Previously, he served as commander of the 104th Airborne Assault Regiment of the Russian Airborne Forces.

Yesterday, the RDK recorded a video in which they called on the Governor of the Belgorod Region, Gladkov, to come to negotiations on neutral territory in order to talk and take away prisoners of war, whom the RDK are ready to voluntarily release. Here is the video.

Gladkov seemed to agree, but did not come. Here is his answer

Here's the answer from the RDK. They say they will transfer the prisoners to the exchange fund of the Ukrainian army

Russian volunteers from the RDK on the captured Russian "Tigr-M" are transporting captured Russian soldiers

moment of surrender

The Nova Tavolzhanka (5000 citizens) has been under the control of the RDK for many days now they said. There were no people left. The abandoned settlement is still of no interest to either the regional or federal authorities.

Interesting idea:
For many years in the occupied territories, Russia has been issuing its passports to everyone. That is, Ukrainians forcibly became citizens of the Russian Federation and now they can join the RDK or the Legion as citizens of the Russian Federation and go to liberate Belgorod, as citizens of the Russian Federation

🤣🤣🤣🤣
The Russian authorities acknowledged the loss of
control over the settlement near Belgorod

20:01, 06/05/23

There are about 100 people in the village, the governor says.

Belgorod governor Vyacheslav Gladkov confirmed that the Russian army had lost control over the border settlement of Novaya Tavolzhanka in the Belgorod region.

"As of today, we cannot enter there yet. I know that about 100 people were [there], according to the report of the head of the district, but the shelling of the last two days does not allow us to clarify the information. I hope, as soon as the situation changes, we will be able to return to to convince people to leave the settlement," Vyacheslav Gladkov said during a live broadcast, writes the Russian edition of Dozhd.

Goole-translate:
In the village of Novaya Tavolzhanka in the Belgorod region of the Russian Federation, which was occupied by soldiers of the "Russian Volunteer Corps" fighting on the side of Ukraine, 52-year-old Colonel Andrei Stesev was liquidated. He was the senior of the operational group "Belgorod", according to the Main Intelligence Directorate of the Ukrainian Defense Ministry.

"According to operational information, on the night of June 04-05, in the village of Novaya Tavolzhanka, Colonel of the Guard Andrey Vasilyevich Stesev, senior of the Belgorod operational group, was killed. Previously, he served as commander of the 104th Airborne Assault Regiment of the Airborne Forces of the Russian Federation" , the message says.

The GUR also publishes a photograph of the ID of the liquidated colonel, from which it follows that he was assigned to military unit 07264 of the RF Armed Forces, based in Pskov (Pskov region of the Russian Federation).

The Legion "Freedom of Russia" reported that the liquidation of Stesev was the result of their work with the "Russian Volunteer Corps".

"We want to inform you that a joint group of the Legion" Freedom of Russia "and the RDK killed Colonel Stesev Andrey Vasilievich, senior of the Belgorod operational group. He died in a shooting battle, as an officer with a weapon in his hands, but we must admit that these hands are up to the elbow in blood "He and his subordinates, on his orders, systematically terrorized the population of the Belgorod region, violated their rights and freedoms. Previously, Stesev killed civilians in Chechnya, Yugoslavia, Abkhazia and on the territory of Ukraine," the Legion said in a statement.

Prigozhin started as Putin's pet project but is now building a faction of his own. He avoids criticizing Putin directly, but instead attacks the Russian Ministry of Defense, specific leaders (Shoigu, Gerasimov) and laments about the overall state of Russia's military. He has been testing what will happen as he grows increasingly critical and arrived at the conclusion that other factions within the Russian government are unable to do much about him. So is he is building a name for himself as a simple man who tells people the truth and is working hard for the success of Russia while the other factions are corrupt and inefficient. He is clearly biding his time for the post-Putin era.

The Russian government has now forbidden media from mentioning him, he can no longer recruit fighters from prisons but his reach continues through social media. There is speculation that he has powerful patrons/allies in the Kovalchuk brothers.
It's dog eat dog tradition of the Kremlin. Prigozhin is the 2nd strongest (outside of Putin) position to capture leadership post Putin because :

  1. He's Russian-Christian, not some Asian like Kadyrow or Shoygu
  2. He has a loyal army on his own which iirc would prefer him over Putin himself

Right now, they're likely on the consolidation phase on who will have what once Prigo comes to power.

I don't think he's going to be able to capture leadership, but he will became a valuable asset to anyone looking to lead. Prigozhin has a loyal army, a recognizable name, and assets that will provide him revenue in Africa, but he remains a tainted product. He served nine years in prison and is too crude and repulsive even for Russia. A cleaner candidate better at politics would be preferable for the FSB and oligarchs to lead Russia (or whatever remains of its more populous regions if Russia disintegrates into several states). Russia after Putin will descend into power struggle of rival warlords. Assuming Prigozhin survives, he will be able to protect assets of other powerful players, add to his own assets, and support politicians who represent his interests.

However, he's also vulnerable specifically because he doesn't have his own loyal fiefdom, like Kadyrov with Chechnya or Shoigu with Tuvan. Both Kadyrov and Shoigu have invested considerable resources to ensure they have a loyal population that they can rely on and escape to. In the case of Kadyrov killing him is dangerous because of his ties to other Chechens and in particular his own clan, as well as his family having some semblance of a line of succession that can carry out revenge. On the other hand killing Prigozhin will result in the collapse of Wagner. There is no line of succession in a mercenary organization.

Hmm let's see, that scenario means Prigozhin is nowhere better than what he is now. A 2nd fiddle politician which is expendable and must continuously prove he is worthy enough to sit in the high table. I don't buy this, he probably thought that the amount of effort he had done deserves him something that at least elevate him more than what he is now.

I don 't see any other player outside maybe Kadyrow/ Shoygu. But other oligarchs could off course use those two to prep up his own against Prigo's Wagners.
