1) Yes, he "won" an election which was already predetermined ahead of time. 87% or 79%, only thing I'll give Putin is that he at least tries not to make it too obvious, most of the time at least.

2) Carries baggage? My man, the word "invasion" has a very simple definition. Did Russia invade Ukraine, yes or no?

3) I don't really see Western politicians threatening to invade other countries or claiming that other nations are fake and made up like Russia does with Ukraine.
Nobody was taking any bets as to who would win and that says a lot :)

Footage of a Russian 7.62mm PKM machine gun hitting a Ukrainian drone called “Baba Yaga”. Drones of the Baba Yaga type are heavy agricultural UAVs of various models, converted for military needs and usually armed with 82 mm mines. As can be seen from the video, defeating a drone even with a machine gun takes longer than if shotguns were used, which have been talked about a lot lately. It is worth noting that the Russian army has begun to receive shotguns. The photo was taken over Chasov Yar.

For a normal civilian, invading other countries sounds contra productive and a waste of time, but from a political analyst, depending on who and what they represent, answers may vary.

Of course that it depends on who and what they represent. When they represent something/someone, they are automatically not objective anymore, and what they say is simply support for a propaganda machine. It has nothing to do with the objective truth.

That’s why political analysts look for explanations for the unjustifiable. It is because they are paid by one of the sides, or are simply so ideologicaly brainwashed that they support one side no matter what atrocities it commits.

Ask yourself, how many time Western think tanks condemn the invasion of Iraq? Not many, most of them simply said that it was a mistake, and that's it.

Think tanks are by definition the mouthpieces of some interest groups. They are not objective judges of events. Everything they say goes through the filter of “does it serve the inteests of my bakers?”.

When we casually talk in a forum, we are supposed to look for objective facts, not to cheerleader for one side regardless of what it does. This is if we are objective people without hidden motives.

The Russian military op in Ukraine might not make sense for many people because they neither understand the complex background that led the Russian army to enter the country in the first place.

It makes no sense for any sane person living in the XXI century. But of course it makes sense for people still stuck in the XIV century mentality of “invade your neighbors if you can, why not?” and “if you can defeat them, then you should steal their belongings and rape their women”.

The complex background of this war can be simplified to the fact that Putin and his cronies live in the XIV century, and they can’t deal with problems using XXI century tactics, because they are too brutal and stupid to adapt to the modern world.

Ukraine's 🇺🇦 110th Mechanized Brigade is reporting that they have shot down 2 Russian SU-25 CAS aircraft. According to the 110th, the first aircraft was shot down yesterday, while the second was shot down today.

If indeed accurate, these developments are important. Ukraine is already having a hard enough time dealing with Russian glide bombs along the front, it's imperative that they punish Russia's fleet of SU-25s and KA-52s when the Russians attempt to bring them to the front to provide CAS.

And that clearly describes the West when it comes to their judgement on Russian op in Ukraine

Lookey here, when Putin ordered the military operation into Ukraine, there was no order to steal other people's belongings or rape their women. If it did, it was just some petty misconduct from the lower-ranked rank-and-file. If you look at the initial operation, everything points to a peaceful takeover. The Russian column drove in a professional manner, they stopped at traffic lights, distributed food and water to bypassers, etc.

It's Ukraine that turned this affair into a mess. An unnecessary mess that saw the destruction of many settlements, and ironically it's Russia that took the initiative to build back.

AH that should just allow that, Russia to occupy a sovereign country. What a shame these Ukrainians are defending their own country. Even prior Russia occupies some part of their country 8 years prior.

If somebody come into your house forcefully, I guess you just bend over and wait submissively.

There are 2 major schools of thought regarding the validity of Ukrainian statehood and sovereignity:

  1. Ukraine is a sovereign country, proponents of this argument based this on the fact that Ukraine is an active member of the UN
  2. Ukraine is an invented nation, and their arguments stem from an in-depth understanding of the complex historical background that led to Ukraine in the first place.
Putin wrote a very interesting paper just before the commencement of hostility between the two Slavic nations. It is called On the Historical Unity of Russians and Ukrainians

Basically, the arguments centered around the fact that Ukrainians aren't a standalone people to begin with, but a single people with Russia based on the same shared historical and spiritual space. I recommend people to read more about it. Because this is a more believable story than the simple argument that Ukraine is a sovereign state just based on the fact that they're a UN member.

What a shame these Ukrainians are defending their own country. Even prior Russia occupies some part of their country 8 years prior.

It was based on Putin's excellent argument, that I withdraw my recognition of the appropriateness of the word 'invasion' in the first place.

Why would you rob something that is yours to begin with?

I have feeling that we have the honour of having Mr Imran Hussein in disguise here.
It is becoming really repugnant to read of the gentlemanly conduct of the Russians . Oh it is just few apples.
