Mmmm... The plan for the war was to get to Kiev, overthrow the Ukrainian government and take over the country. It was not to occupy 4 oblasts in Ukraine. Russia failed to take over the country. Why would Europe accept Russia demilitarising Ukraine? Ukraine did not attack Russia. If I remember correctly Russia mounted a full scale invasion of Ukraine in February 2022. Did Russian TV not cover it? If either country is to be demilitarised it should be the aggressor.

Well Ukraine is burning through billions of dollars of equipment far faster than what Russia can produce if we look at the statistics I provided earlier that shows where and when ukraines equipment got destroyed, compared to where and when Russia's equipment got destroyed.

You advocate empire rebuilding - perhaps a land bridge through southern Ukraine to Transnistria. That would be followed by a Russian attack on Moldova, placing Russia in a position to attack EU countries. No way would the EU countries accept that.

As far as I am aware Moldova and Ukraine are still not a part of NATO, if they do become a part of NATO that would be good news for Russia to keep less of a military presence because of nukes in their new territories in Ukraine and have their hands free with a bigger population and military to fuck over the middle east and africa.

Putin thought Russia would steamroller Ukraine so fast that the show would be over before countries could come to Ukraine's aid. So did I. For a few days. Then Russia's armour ground to a halt. With all the corruption throughout the Russian system the armour stopped working and it suddenly became apparent that a Russian conquest of Ukraine was not inevitable. That was enough for the US and the Europeans to decide to back Ukraine, the US with timidity and because of that timidity, frustrating and delaying European military support.

Perhaps I'm a bit slow mentally and have failed to grasp that you are joking. But if not, what is the argument you are making? As I understand it Russia was very concerned that Ukraine might join NATO and saw that as a threat. The irony is that Russia's aggression pushed Finland and Sweden into joining NATO.

Personally I loathe NATO. I see it as a tool of American foreign policy. My view is and has been for years that Europe should have seen that a weak Ukraine could lead to it being attacked by an expansionist Russia. It would have been far cheaper for Europe to build Ukraine into a strong military power - masses of weapons supplied using soft loans etc - than to leave a country on Europe's doorstep vulnerable to attack and unable to defend itself. Had Europe had the good sense to arm Ukraine to the teeth 20 or 30 years ago the chances of invasion and a costly European war would have been much reduced. Hundreds of thousands of Russian and Ukrainian lives might have been saved. A great deal of human misery might have been avoided. Russia would perhaps be 1 trillion USD - 2 trillion USD better off financially than it is 4 years into the war. I don't include the massive losses in the economy in that guesstimate.

Russian industry (apart from the arms industry) would not be damaged, contracting and some of it becoming insolvent. The country's infrastructure would have been receiving investment instead of being starved of funds. Education would not be starved of funds. Medecine would not be starved of funds. Etc etc etc.

What has Russia done? Destroyed a symbiotic relationship with the west - Russia digs stuff out of the ground, the West buys it, the West makes products, Russia buys them. A mutually beneficial relationship. That's gone and may take decades to be re-established, if ever it is.

Why has Russia done what it has done? Can you identify any benefit that has accrued to Russia? Please do tell me if you see how Russia has benefitted. I would love to know.

Yes, Ukraine can make Crimea uninhabitable. Problem is that, due to its geography, Russia could do the same if Crimea were in Ukrainian hands. I guess it's going to become a wasteland until the war finishes.

That was simply not possible. Ukraine was under a Russian vassal 20 or 30 years ago. Until 2014, Ukraine was led by a pro-Russian regime. Ukraine was not trustworthy at the time.

Yes, there were opportunities before the Maidan when the Orange revolution changed the regime for a while, but Ukraine was too unstable and infiltrated by Russia at the time. Only after the Maidan did Russia completely lost power in Ukraine.

And that happened because of Putin’s decision to annex Crimea. That was the turning point when Russia completely lost the Ukrainian people, turning them into enemies. Until that moment, Russia only needed to wait for the next electoral cycle and would have probably took back power.

But Putin miscalculated so much when he took Crimea and started the Donbas insurgencies, and everything else derives from that ill-thought decision. Ukraine is so clearly pro-European now because Russia showed them its true colours when it annexed Crimea. Before that, the Ukrainian population was evenly slpit between pro-Europeans and pro-Russians.

28 more ships belonging to Russia's shadow fleet were hit last night in the Sea of Azov, bringing the total to 76 ships over the last 6 days. The bridges of these ships are being targeted and destroyed, rendering them useless in the water without sinking them. The ships hit last night included 21 oil / fuel tankers, 4 tugboats, 2 dry cargo ships and 1 "special" craft.

The goal in targeting these ships is to completely shutdown cargo supplies to Crimea through the Sea of Azov as Ukraine increasingly ramps up pressure on Russian citizens living there, making the Peninsula virtually unlivable. Ukraine has chased the Russian Navy out of the Sea of Azov and they're hiding like cowards, barricaded into the port of Novorossiysk in the Black Sea, leaving the merchant ships in the Sea of Azov easy targets for Ukrainian drones, with no air defense to help them.

There are reportedly another 75-100 Russian flagged, merchant ships present in the Sea of Azov, so exodct Ukraine to keep up their drone campaign until Russia proves capabke of stopping it.

The next step for Ukraine as they continue their relentless focus on Russia's OnG production is to start targeting costly Russian civilian infrastructure such as their natural gas lines that produce heat to Russian homes and the electricity grid system. One of the Russian flaws is that the size of their country means that there isn't possibly enough air defense to protect everything that is important and expensive to fix / replace. It will be fall before long, and winter soon afterwards. As Ukraine cranks up long range strike drone production using Western aid and production partnerships, using Russia's tactics against them would serve to make the Russian winter miserable and really turn the people on their government. Tens of thousands of strike drones and cruise missiles need to be used to systematically destroy the heating and energy grid of western Russia. It would cost monumental sums of money for Russia to repair their energy / heating grids, which would take away from what they could spend on the war.

It's extremely important that Western funds help Ukraine reach production rates of 1000+ long range strikes drone per day, roughly 3x what they can produce now. Saturation attacks against Russia are going to make Crimea unlivable and they can have meteoric impact on mainland Russia as well.
FP-1 drones cost approximately $55,000 usd each. With Western partnerships that number could drop to below $50,000 each by the fall. In order to produce 1000 drones per day the cost would be roughly $50 million usd per day, or $1.5 Billion usd per month. A 6 month pressure campaign on Russia with 1000 drones per day would cost $9 Billion usd, well inside the Ukrainian budget after receiving the enormous EU loan.
