@TheInsider , what do you think, how many troops US have send to Ukraine border?
Probably under 10k but It doesn't matter. Germany, Poland, UK has a big US presence. If the US wants to intervene it can be done in a very short time. I think NATO should send airforce and missile defense systems. Tell Russia that any fighter that enters Ukrainian airspace will be shot down. Clear the skies and let Ukrainians fight on equal terms. I don't think Russia will escalate further if that happens.

PM prepares defiant message for Putin ahead of meeting - 'We will stand by NATO'

In a move designed “to send a clear message” to President Putin ahead of a meeting between the two leaders this week, the Prime Minister confirmed the significant deployment of troops, gunships, missile systems and vessels to Estonia and Poland. Britain already has a permanent military force in the region as part of Nato’s Enhanced Forward Presence. The new build-up will “send an important signal to Russia that the UK has real skin in the game”.

Russian battle groups – including between 130,000-150,000 troops – are massed on Ukraine’s border and intelligence has revealed that Putin has a “puppet government” ready to install after an invasion.
But Mr Johnson said: “This package will send a clear message to the Kremlin. We will not tolerate their destabilising activity and we will always stand with our Nato allies in the face of Russian hostility. If President Putin chooses a path of bloodshed and destruction, it will be a tragedy for Europe. Ukraine must be free to choose its own future. I have ordered our Armed Forces to prepare to deploy across Europe, ensuring we are able to support our Nato allies on land, at sea and in the air.”
The Prime Minister is expected to relay that message in person during a meeting with the Russian premier this week. The proposed deployment will include 1,200 Paras who will deploy alongside US forces, Royal Marine mountain and arctic warfare specialists from 45 Commando, Gunners from 26 Regiment, Royal Artillery armed with long-range Deep Fire missile systems, Apache gunships from 4 Regiment, Army Air Corps, and electronic warfare and cyber units from the Royal Signals and the Royal Marines' specialist Y Squadron.

Also poised are drones from 47 Regiment Royal Artillery, medics and six Chinook troop-carrying helicopters. Elsewhere, an RAF Typhoon squadron will be sent to Cyprus, tasked with patrolling Romanian and Bulgarian air space, while a Type-45 destroyer and a patrol vessel will sail to the Black Sea.

Special Forces have already deployed to Ukraine in a defensive capacity – half the SAS squadron has been tasked with monitoring Russian activities in eastern Ukraine, while the other half is on hand to assist in the evacuation of British citizens from the country, should this come to pass.

The aircraft carrier HMS Prince of Wales, command ship of Nato’s French-led high readiness maritime group, is currently in the North Atlantic and may be moved to the Mediterranean if tensions mount further, to relieve the US carrier Harry S Truman.

With Nato air bases readily available, the carrier will probably host anti-submarine and troop-carrying Merlin helicopters, as well as helicopters and drones from other nations. The proposed deployments follow a series of meetings between Nato and European allies last week, including an online summit with the leaders of the US, Italy, Poland, France, Germany, the European Council, the European Commission and Nato.

These led to President Joe Biden putting 8,500 troops on alert to join a Nato force should hostilities break out, with the option of increasing that number to 50,000. The PM has also spoken to President Recep Tayyip Erdogan of Turkey, Prime Minister Pedro Sanchez of Spain and President Volodymyr Zelenskyy of Ukraine.

Three tank landing craft of the Russians were seen off Sicily. The frigate HNoMS Fridtjof Nansen of the Norwegian Navy was in close contact with Russian ships.

Wondering of other members believe the Russian military could be the best training military in the world with all the large scale drills they are doing?

I have no actual insight in to how they are training but I can guess that a lot of the action is mainly for show.

To me every Turkish user are sophisticated people on this forum.

I thought that Putin opening up a huge mosque with Erdogan there for the opening (even sharing ice cream with him at an airshow) along with having more muslims than the west would favor Turks liking ruskies here. But it seems they prefer neo-nazis that have a good chance seeing turks as inferior people and all of a sudden seem to be pro-west when it obviously looks like their country isnt with the S-400 deals. I think most users here are proud historians of their country that didnt like the results of their history with Russia as the only explanation i can think of or pissed that Russia still has the majority of syria while funding the FSA did not go well for them. I thought Russians and Turks would high five each other here for having leaders that dont give a fuck about the west. Hearing their opinions on the matter would be weird, so have mine instead.

I think using nukes would be against the Geneva convention so thats why they have advanced in friendly thermobaric weapons. Comparing the FOAB to the MOAB the FOAB is superior with a 300 meter blast radius and i have currently no idea how many of those bombs can be dropped by Tu-160s and the TOS-2 in one volley covers 60,000 square feet and i am sure they have way more of these than Algeria has 51 or 52 TOS weapons.

Unlike chechnya destroying their own buildings or scared of trying to hit their civilians they wont be giving any fucks about ukraine when using those weapons so I take the west's assessment that Ukraine is another chechnya as a joke considering they dont see Ukraine as part of their country (yet or not yet). And comparing it to afghanistan is also ridiculous because that was when the soviet union was collapsing while the sanctions being proposed by the west involve useless shit like apple products and they got some deals with the Chinese and middle east along with Arctic oil projects which they will deal with the Indians soon.

Russians are not that close to Ukraines border which would cause their MRLS systems to keep striking Ukraine's low range MRLS systems and after they are all dealt with they will start using thermobaric weapons. Ukraine's neptune cruise missiles with all due respect have better range than any MRLS system including Russia's but the delilah missiles that were intercepted were smaller RCS targets on radar than tomahawks and can be considered easier to intercept but because borders outside Ukraine are like flat tundras, even so after firing them there is not alot of them while longer range kalibr missiles exist as well and the use of EW systems could hamper the targeting of said neptune missiles.

There are many weapons like EW systems, MRLS or thermobaric weapon technology you dont hear about from the west either the west has not sharpened their swords while Russia has all these years or they hide their best weapons for last as being classified and not known to the public anything goes.

Russian paratroopers perform a group landing from an Il-76 aircraft on new parachute systems from a height of 10,000 meters in the extreme conditions of the Arctic near the Franz Josef Land archipelago. Freeze frame video.

The Russian Ministry of Defense reported that by the end of 2021, 69 new outstanding achievements were included in the Book of Records of the Armed Forces of the Russian Federation.

The Ministry of Defense recognized the world's first parachute landing of a medical military unit in full force with equipment and equipment as the most ambitious achievement of last year. It, we recall, took place in August 2021. The personnel of the mobile hospital of the 98th Ivanovo airborne division were then involved in the experimental exercise in the Kostroma and Ivanovo regions, which the command of the Airborne Forces organized on behalf of the Minister of Defense Sergei Shoigu

This unique operation involved 17 aircraft. Having traveled a little over 100 kilometers, Il-76 aircraft successfully landed about 160 medical personnel of the hospital, 14 units of armored and automotive equipment and 25 P-7 platforms with cargo in 30 minutes to the Budikhino landing site in the Kostroma Region. 24 platforms - with medical property and equipment. One is for food. After landing and gathering at the landing site, pneumoframe tents of the main functional units of the airmobile hospital were deployed in the field.

According to statistics, more than 60 percent of "military" records were set by soldiers and officers in combat training classes and at international army games. Another 40 percent of the 2021 records come from special missions excellently performed by the military.

For example, during last year's expedition to Alexandra Island in the Franz Josef Land archipelago, they set 7 records. Among them is the equipment of an ice airfield in the area located above 80 degrees north latitude. And also - the world's first parachute landing of a group of rescuers into the open sea in the northern latitudes with the help of a small marine landing complex. Fighter flights to the North Pole area with its crossing also got into the Book of Military Records.

Russia is a world power, so their training should not be looked down upon.

Although I personally think its still way behind NATO, Russia (and its military) suffer a very bad period after the collapse of the Soviet Union where their military are reduced into decay including lack of training. Only in the late 2000s they're once again intensifying their military training.

Talking about drills, I don't think Russia's navy and AF has any analogue to this. Both in size and intensity

Russia's exercise are mostly land based, largest Russian led CSTO exercise like Vostok 2018 which reportedly involves 300K troops.[source] NATO's largest currently are Trident Juncture 2018. With around 50K troops but include a larger naval forces.
