why is it flying and contesting airspace in Bakhmut ?

Imagine if the US decide to equip Ukraine with F-16 earlier ?
Despite possessing the numerical and technical superiority, the RuAF remains unable to destroy Ukranian Air assets (some of which are flying close to the frontline). Their failure to destroy/disable Ukranian land assets (and protect their own from Ukranian attacks) is noteworthy.
Because equipment/tools are just that, tools. Russian air force has the better tools and they emphasize tools = field performance. Russian propaganda like "combat approved" really like to show how their equipment are superior to the Western ones even though they're not.

The war in Ukraine shows why USAF/USN and select Western countries like air components is right not only with their equipment choices but their training.

30 years in between from Desert Storm to Ukraine and Russia failed replicating what the US coalition did in Kuwait. The US coalition achieve air superiority in the first two days and transition to air supremacy on the 10th compared to VKS not even able to achieve air superiority after 10 months of war.

in 1991 many USAF fighters doesn't not have AESA, advanced ECM and some coalition planes still uses traditional bombing techniques against Iraqi formidable IADS (the 3rd largest in the world). In 2022 Russia goes to war with Su-30/34/35 against a country with questionable IADS.

Actually, this photo says it all. Zelenskiy, in light military garb, salutes the German chancellor with a nod like a German soldier.

Whereas zelensky is the head of state and scholz is the prime minister. So they're not even equal. Do you think this crush comes from comedy?
I do not know. In the cultural background I am coming from, such a gesture plus strong handheld means just a respect, nothing more. Damn, those people in power, they can be unbelievably sensitive! It is called diplomacy, you know...

There is a joke about jewish shop owner, teaching his son: "Aabram, remember! Politeness- this costs you nothing, but how much does it bring in!". There can exist significantly higher values compared to someones self-obsessed egos. It might come as a surprise, but in democratic countries being in power means serving the country and its citizens. The privilege to have the power is counterbalanced with obligation to achieve the very best for your country.

This is confusing concept, perhaps, but for me this picture means that Zelenski is willing to put his ego second to his nation best interests. The people of Ukraine trusted him with leadership role and he is willing to sacrify a lot in order to deserve it- stay under direct attack in Kiev in the beginning of war, visit frontline, use any means necessary to quarantee vital support from west and quarantee the freedom for hes people. Give him idea what he could do more and he will...

This is called inspiring leadership. We can compare this to the opposing leadership and this means fear and supression and cowardship. Where is our beloved Putin, who rides with bears, swims with sharks and flies with birds? Anywhere but not close to frontline... like our comrade blackjack. Black because he is not seen nowhere close to russia or, god forbid, close to Ukrainian frontline? Yeah, it is easy to love Russia from far or from top of it, living in Gelendzike palace. Try to do it on spot?

Basically this war ends when America decides it ends. I've got to imagine F16's will be the final nail in Putins coffin. What a colossal fiasco this invasion turned out to be for Russia.

The thing is when Russians were on the run how come Ukrainians said they lose 5 of them for 1 russian soldier and when they fire 3 mortars they get 20 fired back at them.
Here is what one russian said on another forum
"Алекс, это не война с папуасами, которые автомат в руках никогда не держали. Это большая армия с хорошей мотивацией и опытом, у них достаточно современного оружия, на них работает вся натовская разведка и они же им фактически обеспечивают тыл. Это тяжелая война, и никаких потерь 1 к 20, к 10, к 5 и даже к 3 нет и близко. Мобилизация и вербовка зк - это не от хорошей жизни. "
" Alex, this is not a war with the Papuans, who never held a machine gun in their hands. This is a large army with good motivation and experience, they have enough modern weapons, all NATO intelligence works for them, and they actually provide them with rear. This is a hard war, and there are no losses of 1 to 20, to 10, to 5, or even to 3, and there are no close ones. Mobilization and recruitment of zk is not from a good life."
So even your people are starting to see the truth.

The war will be 1 years old fcking hell!!

Time flies!!

Here in Australia it has become forgotten unfortunately. The war in Ukraine has now disappeared in the mainstream just like other wars and conflicts.

Perhaps I was too hasty to dismiss the idea of US weapons in Ukraine disappearing from the front line...

Eastern European lives are considered only slightly more interesting to the mainstream media than those of Middle-Easterners, Africans and Asians.

If you say Zelensky is marketing Ukraine, yes you are right. We can say that Zelensky sold Ukraine to the west. And the West uses Ukraine to its blood.

Ah, the famous egg-chicken dilemma. Who was there first, chiken or egg?

I would argue that Ukrainian people decided to reorient into West and choose Zelenski as the best option to lead them in this way. Some 15 minutes history lesson for those, who are not familiar with Maidan revolution/massacre in 2014.

Just to say, one can sell something he owns. In other words, Putin is muc more likely to throw the human lives backed bets on the table compared to Zelenski. Why does this bother you not?

Sadly yes, the West is using the situation to weaken the Russia as much as possibly. Not because we want to, but because we have to. Similarily does Türkiye if people of this country does not want to see russian soldiers boots washed in Indian Ocean.

That too from thousands of miles away and Ukraine is literally next door.

Not just in the air but on the ground as well.
It seems the Russians will have to re-learn combined arms warfare and logistics basics from the Soviets.

Imagine if the US decide to equip Ukraine with F-16 earlier ?
IF (big IF) that happens , they'll be able to exploit the Info that is being fed by NATO assets and carry out sorties with better situational awareness and with near impunity.

The Ukrainian Delta Battle management system is said to have received vital information from NATO assets.
