Can someone explain what makes a tank or a truck become seared in such a manner? Is it really due to the
burning of stored ammunition? or do the actual HEAT rounds cause such destruction?

HEAT rounds don't obliterate the tanks, but Russian armored vehicles as well trucks are often filled to the brim with explosives and ammo. Hence the cook off destroyed the vehicle. Most Russian light armored vehicle are also made out of aluminium and it doesn't help

maybe that's why they are desperate to capture a large airbase and use it for resupply ?
