A rational argument made is that weapon delivers have been incremental as to not escalate the conflict with Russia, so now western tanks are supplied where had they been suplied day one maybe the Russians would have done something crazy. Basically the boiling frog approach, the same approach the americans use against us with the PKK, a kurdistan here, then later a kurdistan there. Small arms here, small arms there and then later on helicopters with the eventual intent to turn these terrorists into a real standing army with air defence and fighter jets.

However the other argument i feel could be the case with things like F16's not been sent yet is that geopolitically this war dragging out is good for America. Russia ruins herself, exhausts herself and many nations are pulled towards the american world order in the process. A war that lasts many years is good for America or if the war ends, that it ends in such a way that the americans can always use it as a point of conflict against the Russians or Europeans the same way the British once being forced out of nations they subjugated made sure to draw lines/borders that later on they could use as points of conflict and contention. This conflict allows them to potentially re-enter the scene or the very continue to harm those nations they themselves crippled. In the same way points of contention between Turkiye, greece and armenia are constantly reheated by our western allies when they want to manipulate us.

This next point is pure speculation, but oryx made the claim that Turkiye actually sent the TRGL 230 guided rocket artillery before the americans sent the Himars. Its very possible if this the case that the americans only sent the himars once they realised that if they don't do it others will and take the clout/influance for themselves. If this is the case for the Ukrainians to make sure they are not part of an american ploy to be used as continued cannon fodder to weaken the Russian empire they should lobby smaller nations to act first ahead of america. See if they can convince anther NATO member to send them F16's to create pressure on the USA to also move forward quicker with it.

A little thoughts about the prospect of VKS gaining air superiority in Ukraine.

IF true (and this is a big big IF) that the Ukraine air defense is running out of air defense missile, the Russian air force, now equipped with relatively accurate and cheap PGM's would have a field day hunting Ukraine troops concentration. Their only concern now is their intelligence gathering capability, which btw due to continuous real life practice would improve incrementally from time to time. Currently Russian ISR coverage is no more than 30km from the frontline using Mavic drones and not very much on time.

A situation which the VKS improved not only the coverage of their ISR assets but also on time intelligence gathering, coupled that with their increasing use of PGM and the opposition lack of necessary means to counter, could meant disaster. Ukraine SAM site could be picked one by one, and losses in SAM sites could meant that the Russian air force now fly not only higher but deeper towards Ukr. If unchallenged, Ukraine would have to adapt by dispersing assets and troops, blunting its offensive potential.

This could also meant another humanitarian disaster because if air defense are blunt, VKS could again fly unchallenged towards cities and start deliberate civilian punishing bombing once again like they did in Syria.

If let long enough, nationwide morale could plummet and the will to fight dropped. Another refugee crisis will start and refugee crisis does affect countries with smaller recruitable population. Because even frontline fighters wanted to save their family first.

I don’t think the WSJ would have published that leaked document if it ws actually true.

The way I read it, the leak is about emboldening Russia to use their jets over Ukraine, in order to down some Russian jets.

So about this UMPK bomb. It has quite a potential.

Released from 9000m (30.000ft) and glide for about 60km from launch.

The production model are quite crude tbh. But if it works then I could forgive the ugly final finish.

Very close performance to winged JDAM except that JDAM's are released at an altitude of 11000m ( 35.000ft) and glide to 74km. Still a very close performance. And makes it immune to most MERAD air defense in theater.

I think soon enough we will see a more high altitude bombing by the VKS and the Su-25 will be increasingly replaced in the frontline by the higher flying Su-34/34M.

Things could have gone from bad to worse if UMPK are fitted with laser guidance like the LJDAM.

Its without question that F-16s is a huge boost and will brought new capabilities for Ukraine. New features such as the ability to fire active homing missile. But keep in mind that even with F-16. Ukraine is still in a position of relative inferiority. Russian air force simply sees further with their AWACS and shoots farther with their R-37M missile.

I don't think F-16 can altogether solve the VKS menace recovering from their initial failure. There are hurdles such as the number provided and what model, realistically the F-16 supplied to Ukraine will be the older block variant F-16. Probably the APG-68 v(3) or V(5) equipped block 30/32, and it remained to be seen if the U.S is willing to supply C7/C8/D type AMRAAM to Ukraine especially because of the sensitive technology behind those models.

Also I'm curious what will be the result of veteran foreign pilot in F-16s vs veteran Su-35 pilot, so yeah am looking forward for that to happen.
