The Leleka-100 UAV was developed by the Ukrainian company DeViRo. Today France announced a $2.15 Billion usd aid package to Ukraine, which will be delivered in stages over the coming months. This package is on top of France's contributions to the EU's $20 Billion usd loan to Ukraine in 2025, which will be serviced using frozen Russian assets. Today's newly announced package will consist of the following:

An episode of a battle at a stronghold of the Ukrainian army located in a forest belt. The video was filmed in the Rubtsovsk direction, this is in the Donbass. The video shows the assault on the Ukrainian stronghold by the Russian assault detachment of the 16th separate special forces brigade, the "West" group of troops. It was not possible to establish which Ukrainian servicemen participated in the battle. As reported, there were 5 Ukrainian servicemen at the stronghold, as a result of the battle, two of them surrendered.

The end is not necessarily near. Europe will continue to support Ukraine with weapons and money. Even if they face setbacks in the war for a while, there will come a time when the power balance will reverse again in their favor. Once Europe gears up into fighting mode, there is nothing Russia can do to keep up. Europe is simply way wealthier and more technologically advanced than Russia.

Unfortunately for Ukraine, the European countries have been slow to ramp up weapons production.

About Russian territorial gains, some context is needed. Ukraine holds about 480,000 sq km of its territory. If Russia gained 48 sq km of territory a day it would take it 10,000 days to occupy all of Ukraine. Given the rate at which Russia is spending on the war, the Russian government is likely to run out of the funds required to finance the war within hundreds, not thousands of days.

IMO Ukraine should keep fighting and wait for Russia to descend into financial and economic turmoil. When it reaches that point it will be unable to continue the war.

With ongoing financial support from EU, UK and Norway, Ukraine is not headed for bankruptcy. Russia is.

No, I don't think that Ukraine can fight forever. I don't think that Russia can fight forever either.

I think that Ukraine should conduct a fighting retreat with a view to conserving manpower. Ukraine lost about 4,000sq km in 2024. Even if that rose to 20,000 sq km in 2025, it would take Russia many years to occupy the rest of the country.

Arms manufacturers stop making arms when they stop being paid. Train drivers stop driving trains when they stop being paid, miners stop mining etc. Companies building houses, companies building infrastructure etc stop when they stop being paid. People working for the state stop work when they stop being paid. Soldiers may stop fighting when they stop being paid.

Given that much of Russian state data regarding the economy have stopped being published or may be falsified if published (who believes inflation is only 10%?), economists cannot ascertain exactly how bad things are in the Russian economy but many predict a severe crisis possibly as early as mid-2025.

Waging war costs money. If a state runs out of money it can no longer wage war.

This is exactly what I think as well. In the long term, Ukraine wins on the economic front, becasue Ukraine’s backers are wealthier than Russia, and are not directly involved in the war, so their economies continue to function normally, while Russia’s economy is in continuous decay.

All Ukraine needs to do is to conserve manpower as much as possible and inflict as much damage on Russian troops and energy infrastructure.

This is why Trump is so desperate to force a peace deal on Ukraine. He doesn’t want Putin to lose, and he knows that if the war drags for a few more years, it will be Russia who will disintegrate under economic collapse.

A unique incident occurred during the fighting in the Orekhov direction in the Zaporizhia region of Ukraine. Two Russian BTR-82A were moving towards the village of Malye Shcherbaki, and a Ukrainian BTR M113 was driving towards them. For an unknown reason, the Ukrainian BTR M113 did not engage in combat and, having pulled off the road, let the Russian BTR-82A pass. Gazprom is the largest employer in Russia with nearly half a million employees. Its financial results show a dramatic turnaround.

PS I am pleased to hear that, particularly since the Russian government has been using Gazprom profits to finance the war. Notes from an analysis of 2022 financial results:

The company thus emerged as the largest contributor to the Russian budget in 2022, and injected a total of five trillion roubles (about $75billion) into state finances (compared to 3.31 trillion roubles in 2021).

• The Kremlin has deprived Gazprom of the profitable EU market thanks to its decisions, and is now exploiting the company even more heavily so it can balance the Russian budget. Consequently, it is increasing the tax burden imposed on the gas giant. In 2022, the government forced the company to pay an additional one-off extraction tax worth a total of 1.2 trillion roubles. As a result, the company transferred the entire profit made in 2021 to the budget, forgoing the payment of dividends to shareholders for that period. In addition, the company will pay an additional 1.8 trillion roubles (50 billion roubles a month) in extraction tax over the next three years. In 2022, the Kremlin stripped Gazprom of its high profits from the last two years, but it is uncertain whether gas prices will remain high in the years to come, which would allow Gazprom to compensate for the losses resulting from falling sales volumes.

More footage of Russian FPV drones controlled via fiber optic cable. In this case, the FPV drone was supposedly planning to attack a Ukrainian CRARRV engineering vehicle. Judging by the video, the Ukrainian CRARRV had already been damaged. The video was filmed near the village of Zaoleshenka in the Kursk region of Russia. The CRARRV is a very rare vehicle. In 2023, the UK transferred 2 units to Ukraine. It is designed to evacuate Challenger 2 tanks. The CRARRV recovery vehicle was developed by Vickers Defence in 1985, based on the Challenger 1 tank hull. The ARV is equipped with two winches, a hydraulic crane, and a 7.62 machine gun. The ARV crew is up to five people.

The location of the shooting is not reported. The evacuation group uses an ATV and a homemade trailer. The group's work is quite dangerous, as there is a high risk of attack by Ukrainian drones. Drones have also affected the time it takes to evacuate the wounded for surgical care. It has increased threefold - to 14.5 hours.

The medical group takes the wounded, if necessary, assistance is provided directly along the way. The wounded can be encouraged and even force can be used to bring soldiers to their senses. According to doctors as of 2025, during active fighting in Ukraine, the absolute majority of wounds, 94.4% - are shrapnel and explosive. This data includes 75% of wounds from UAV attacks, 20% from artillery shelling and only 4% of wounds from small arms.
