For a bloc of countries that won't stop talking about how existential a threat Russia is, their spending on the war has not reflected that. Look at the way they opened their coffers during Covid-19. That was what spending looks like when you're faced with an existential threat. The fact that the EU isn't willing to contribute 150-200 Billion Euros per year in direct and indirect war funding for Ukraine, tells me how serious of a threat they actually feel they're under (especially in western Europe).
I perfectly agree with you here. It is a disgrace that European countries are willing to spend less on defending Ukraine than what they spent on Covid. The threat posed by Russia is many magnitudes higher than Covid, and it is perfectly known how to spend the money to defeat Russia, while with Covid money was spent on untested solutions that were very likely to be useless.
Also, with Covid it was known that the threat will pass even if no money was thrown at it, while with Russia, it is impossible to resolve the problem without spending huge amounts of money on weapons.
European leaders seem to be so detached from reality that they feared a flu more than they fear war. It’s really crazy if you think about it.
