The Ukrainian Navy plans to own seven Island-class patrol boats, reports Militarnyi with reference to the TV and radio studio of the MOD of Ukraine “Breeze”.

The Commander of the Ukrainian Navy, Rear Admiral Oleksii Neizhpapa noted about military aid:

The decision of the Governments of Ukraine and the United States of America is to assist in completing the Navy with ships and boats.

The separate squadron of patrol boats is supposed to be based in the Pivdennyi seaport, which has appropriate infrastructure.

Last year, with the help of the President of Ukraine, we received a wharfage, which will soon be restored, said the Rear Admiral.

Recently, by the order of the Minister of Defense №362, the “Fastiv” and “Sumy” patrol boats were put into commission with the Navy of the Armed Forces of Ukraine.

One more Island-class boat is waiting for shipping to Ukraine. The fifth transferred patrol boat was named after the Hero of Ukraine of the warrant officer Viacheslav Kubrak.

The giving of the name of Hero of Ukraine Viacheslav Kubrak to the patrol boat (hull number Р194) of the 30th Surface ships division of the Navy of the Armed Forces of Ukraine is stated in the Decree №581/2021 published on the website of the President on November 15, 2021.

Island-class boats are part of the American package of security assistance for more than $2.5 billion, which was provided by the United States to Ukraine since 2014. In October in Baltimore, USA, the course of additional training of the 5th crew of patrol boats was completed. The training course, led by foreign instructors, lasted six weeks and was conducted at the U.S. Coast Guard shipyard.
