I can count 8 + 8 , 16 cells.
It could be a render issue that two cells might look merged.

Correction note: And had a double check on the plans, the platform in fact looks too narrow and it should be 4. Doesn't make much sense for now. They could try 3-cell ExLS* on each side and get quadpacked CAMM instead = 24 missiles.

*Which we come to my earlier note, you buy it from whomever sells, not giving much possibilities for them to receive ExLS.

However, it is unclear whether Zorya has performed as they did in the small gas turbine negotiation, they might have lacked the necessary cooperation with STM thus STM didn't have enough data and time to evaluate UGT-25000; or STM has concluded the ukranian engine can not be modified without heavy modifications.

If i recall the initial plan for Ada class deal was 4 ships in 2 phases as 2 + 2, the latter 2 being 'modified' and wholely produced in Ukraine following the upgrade of a shipyard, little known about the 3rd phase, another 4 ship with high localization content (radars and electronics by Ukraine). Now Babcock is being dominant in Ukraine and UK providing loan for infastructure upgrade, i am even unsure about the 2nd hull of the series. It may stop at only one hull.

Seems pretty shortsighted to cancel additional orders of ADA especially the last two which would come with modification that would help Ukraine gain valuable know how and experience for future endeavors on their own.

But then again they wouldn't be the first ones to choose the short term solution just to regret it in the future.

It could be a strategic choice from Western block to have Ukraine dependence them and not Turkey. Either way if we got what we needed from Ukraine then I don’t mind them settling with 1-2 Ada class.

I do not think Ukraine is going to bail on us, given how western block failed to do anything supportive of Ukraine.

Ministry of Defense has Selected VL MICA AD Missile System for its Soon-to-be-Fielded Corvette Ada-Class. Contract Award is Anticipated before Year’s End with MBDA​

Defense Express has revealed that Kyiv last week hosted a new round of talks between the Ministry of Defense and MBDA, the developer and manufacturer of the VL MICA air defense missile system.

MBDA’s VL MICA has been selected for the Ada-class corvette being built in Turkey for the Ukrainian Navy.

The Ministry of Defense announced earlier that “The manufacturer has confirmed it is ready to supply it to Ukraine. The missile represents a current-generation, multi-target system that is being continuously evolved and adapted for use with corvette-class warships.“

During the talks last week, the sides agreed on financial and technical details of the contract, as well as the timeframe for deliveries, which should come in aligned with the progress in construction and outfitting of the first of class and subsequent platforms.


MBDA's MICA air defense missile was specifically designed to be launched from low-displacement platforms such as corvettes and littoral frigates. MICA is currently outfitted on frigate-class ships such as Naval Group’s Gowind-Class (France), SIGMA 10514 (the Netherlands), and BAE Systems’ Khareef to name a few.

The VL MICA missile comes with a choice of infrared-homing and active radar guidance units. In its naval version, the missile can destroy targets at 20 km in range and up to 9 km in altitude. It is speedy and maneuverable enough to be able to intercept 3 Mach targets such as supersonic missiles or extremely low-skimming cruise missiles.

The VL MICA NG system is based on the integration into the existing VL MICA system of the MICA NG (New Generation) anti-air missile. Thanks to the technological innovations it incorporates, the new VL MICA NG system offers improved capabilities to handle atypical targets (UAVs, small aircraft) as well as future threats, characterised by increasingly low observable infrared and radio frequency signatures. Additionally, it will be able to intercept at longer distances the ‘conventional’ targets (aircraft, helicopters, cruise missiles and anti-ship missiles) already addressed by the current VL MICA system.

The dimensions of the MICA NG munition remain unchanged, allowing it to be integrated into existing VL MICA launchers. The existing missile data link mechanisms are compatible with the increased kinematic performance of the missiles, enabling current VL MICA systems to be upgraded to VL MICA NG standard by simple software updates.

Based on an entirely new design, the MICA NG missile inherits the external dimensions and unique concept that has made the MICA anti-air missile such a success for a quarter of a century. This concept means MICA features either an infrared or a radio frequency seeker on the same common missile body, allowing the operator, at the moment of firing, to select the best option to respond to the tactics adopted by the adversary.

On the MICA NG, a new infrared seeker based on a matrix sensor will provide increased sensitivity, while a new radio frequency seeker with an active electronically scanned antenna (AESA) will allow for smart detection strategies. The lower volume of electronic components will enable the MICA NG to carry a larger load of propellant, significantly extending its range, and the new dual-pulse rocket motor will provide additional energy to the missile at the end of its flight, improving its manoeuvrability and its ability to intercept targets at long range. In surface-to-air mode, the MICA NG will be able to intercept targets over 40 km away.

The MICA NG missile will be available in series production from 2026, two years later than when Ukraine’s Navy is supposed to receive its first-of-class, ready for trials Ada corvette equipped with the full package of armaments – anti-ship, surface-to-air, and gun artillery.

So it looks probable that the first Ada-class corvette in the Ukrainian Navy fleet will be equipped with first-generation VL MICA missiles, which will be later complemented with more advanced, second-generation VL MICA NG systems when these become available.

Second Ada-class corvette for the Ukrainian Navy will be laid down in 2023

Another Ada-class corvette for the Ukrainian Navy will be laid down in 2023, reports Militarnyi.

Rear Admiral Oleksiy Neizhpapa, the Commander of the Ukraine Navy summed up the main achievements of the Ukrainian Navy in 2021 in Odessa, reports ArmyInform.

“This year, the President of Ukraine completed and approved the strategy for the development of the Ukrainian Navy until 2036,” said the Commander. – It covers all priority areas of the Navy and builds capabilities in the long run. According to the program, the development of surface forces involves the construction of corvette-class ships.

According to the Commander of the Navy, today in Turkey the readiness of the first ship hull is 75-80%.

“In the first quarter of oncoming year, the corvette hull will be ready, and by the end of 2022 the ship with some equipment will be towed to Ukraine for completion,” said Oleksiy Neizhpapa.

During 2023, the corvette will be equipped with the necessary equipment, weapons and the state trials will begin.

STM wants to complete the hull construction before than 1 year, however the shipyard doesn't quite go along with this decision because they have other civilian orders.
Steel cutting of the the block 50.3, the block which accommodates VLS, has not been yet commenced.

STM works in several "projects" with Ukraine, this doesn't have to be Ada-Class as told by STM's manager. But assisting and being a project advisor.

Looks like the first two hulls of the class will be quite close to Turkish Ada-Class (RIM-116), to be honest their plans are exactly same as i have seen with no VLS space allocated, i don't know if those blocks of the hull will be changed later since their steel-cutting has not been commenced yet and they are prone to change.

If the assumption above is true, then the latter two will be made by combination of MICA + Oerlikon Miilenium Gun.

And other 4 will be made by Ukranian contribution as a joint project, similar to PN Milgem which IP rights are being transferred and probably span up to 2030 and will be entirely made in Ukraine. There are also rumors that they have been interested in Atmaca AShM and more Turkish components but couldn't get an agreement on certain matters.

The last part is still valid, STM is in talks for joint design or assisting Ukraine for their own design. It is unclear if they are interested in a scheme as appointed with Pakistan to acquire IP rights or directly step up to phase-III where they will work on their own design with assistance from STM and other Turkish firms.

Apart from this, Ukraine and Turkey are in talks for the rest of the hulls in the class. The remaining 1 or 3 (the decision is up to Ukranian navy whether they want 4 ada class, or +2 of the newer class) will be likely built in Turkey and equipped in Ukraine, as the first hull.
Ukraine wants ToT and know-how transfer but this can't be achieved in the timeline set by them as short term.
