DATUM’s LÜFER Wire-Guided Underwater Reconnaissance and Attack Vehicle Successfully Employed by SAT Commandos
During the "TURNAs-2026" Unmanned Maritime Systems Exercise—held at the Antalya Naval Command from October 19–27, 2026—the LÜFER Wire-Guided Underwater Reconnaissance and Attack Vehicle, developed by Datum AŞ for the Turkish Naval Forces’ SAT (Underwater Offense) Commandos, was successfully utilized by the commandos.
Datum Denizaltı Teknolojileri Uygulama ve Mühendislik AŞ (Datum Submarine Technologies Application and Engineering Inc.), a defense industry company based at Istanbul Technical University, first unveiled the LÜFER Wire-Guided Underwater Reconnaissance and Attack Vehicle at Teknofest 2026 "Blue Homeland" (Mavi Vatan).
Designed to be easily carried by a single person, this unmanned underwater vehicle (UUV)—which resembles a mini-torpedo—measures 1.2 meters in length (excluding the explosive payload) and weighs only 13 kilograms. Equipped with an internal spool containing up to 15 kilometers of fiber-optic cable, the vehicle was developed to be operated by naval commandos from various platforms, including the shore, rigid-hull inflatable boats (RHIBs), helicopters, and even from underwater.
Because the connection between the operator and the LÜFER is maintained via a fiber-optic cable, the system ensures reliable communication—even in environments characterized by intense electronic warfare where wireless communication is impossible—allowing for remote control and the transmission of high-definition (HD) video feeds.
