Gado gado for example, the one i have eaten in a restraurant was a tasteless salad, the one i had in street had lime, full peanut sauce and many other stuff and it was tasty with rice cake too.

I'll be very wary of any wild catch fresh water species. There just too many industrial & agricultural pollutants in our river systems. If you do consume them, make sure they are fried. My usual rule of thumb regarding the edibility of fresh water species is to check whether there are any frogs living in the water. IF there are thriving frogs there, then the water is not polluted enough, thus any fish you catch is pretty much safe to consume.Or in western java was a salted snakehead/gabus asin .
