Nice, trying foodstall by the road and not only eating in restaurant, even eating from banana leaf pincuk.
Well at least i have some people who guides me for the good food. I have eaten some bad food from those sellers too.
And for the most the food in street tastes much better than the ones in the restraurant and i am %100 it wasn't just because of the extra Msg
Gado gado for example, the one i have eaten in a restraurant was a tasteless salad, the one i had in street had lime, full peanut sauce and many other stuff and it was tasty with rice cake too.
Do you like the foods here?
Most i do, some i hate. Ikan Asin for example,i can't have all kinds of it. :)

On ikan asin ... Let just say you only met with a bad match up . The apex of " ikan asin " i could think off would be a chilied of
" teri nasi " medan with a roasted peanut extra pedas plavour . My son used to called it .. teri main bola .

Or in western java was a salted snakehead/gabus asin .

Today was acknowledged as a delicacy and paid in top rupiah .

I'll be very wary of any wild catch fresh water species. There just too many industrial & agricultural pollutants in our river systems. If you do consume them, make sure they are fried. My usual rule of thumb regarding the edibility of fresh water species is to check whether there are any frogs living in the water. IF there are thriving frogs there, then the water is not polluted enough, thus any fish you catch is pretty much safe to consume.

The area on Southern Java usually had more "lively" ecosystem compared to the Northern ones, in Kalimantan area around Northern part of Central Kalimantan and Northern part of East Kalimantan they are relatively virgin, Papua i don't need to said anymore

I've been in the deepest jungle of Sumatera, Borneo, and Celebes. And suffice to say, even in the deepest jungle there is still some human pollutant in the river system. Usually they came from gold mining or palm oil. Which is why I have need for portable reverse osmosis system which is not only heavy, but also expensive compare to my current chemical based solution of field water treatment)

In my observation ...our local ( javanese ) snakehead are more prone to an environmental hazard compare to some species of frog .
I could be wrong though ... Since i don't have any credential at all to back this up .

So they serve the soto soup in a bowl and the rice is wraped in banana leaf? Then you can have the right amount of rice but the rice will be cold
The rice better be cold or nobody would be able to eat it. The Soto is always more than half boiled, the last thing anyone need is a hot rice
