Most of the last two decades were lost in the constant changes, delays, funding shortage, setup of test facilities etc that LCA program had to face and even after IOC approval until recently, the production rate was also fairly low. Not to mention, the MoD babus and IAF top brass were money hungry and wouldn't approve any deal until they receive their share of kickbacks and wouldn't mind killing any indigenous project in the making

Now things have considerably changed and DRDO along with it's entities have a ton of programs in the pipeline with significantly better project management, onboarded several private players and research/edu institutions along with the existence of labs and test facs. This wouldn't necessitate IAF looking outwards for it's needs

Yup ,but they would like to hit a deal with Dassault with more indigenous development , and maybe exports to Dassault .

You don't worry about PAF. It is a professional air force that knows how to tackle IAF. This was demonstrated very vividly recently when Abhinandan had to be rescued by the Americans.
