You watched the only game in which Argentina played like a team tbh
Although the referee was on Argentina's side on many weird instances, England's loss today is mainly because of their mistake in going full defensive mode after scoring their sole goal.

I do recommend you watch the Argentina vs Egypt, Argentina vs Cepe Verde, Argentina vs Switzerland (although not as significant as the former two); when you watch those matches, you will understand why Argentina doesnt deserve to have a spot in the semi-finals in the first place

So every other game Argentina played I've seen twitter compilations showing all the injustices that favoured Argentina. It seemed very clear that corruption was supporting them. For the first 15 minutes it did kind of look like the ref was letting argentina get away with murder, but after that it seemed fairly fair. The last 30 minutes was all Argentina, they totally outplayed england.

Before the tournament my money was on Spain winning. I was saying to people around me months ago that i felt it was kind of stupid that for Turkiye to directly qualify for the tournament they would have to beat the team that is likely to win it.

If no corruption, i still expect this spain side to dispatch this Argentina side. But you got the most pro Palestinian western nation facing against the most pro-zionist nation in the tournament. If there is a game for corruption to show itself, its going to be this one

Since England’s last World Cup championship, in 1966, victories in big moments have proved so elusive that they represented something of a national block. Instead of a run to the tournament’s final game, England’s collective trauma will continue as coach after coach has been unable to break this spell of heartbreak.

Watching england over the decades, because of their seeding they never really face any big teams up until late in the tournaments and then they lose. Their basically a team of athletes. Physical and great conditioning, but its not really a ball playing team. It works great against most teams, but against the top teams its not enough.

England needs to focus more on technical players if they want to compete with the top echelon of teams.

Wholeheartedly agree and I also wanna point out the great injustice did to England when the referee refused to give Enzo Fernandes a red card, as per the rules, for what he did to Elliot Anderson at the 3rd minute of the match

If argentina played with 10 players from the beginning of the match, then it could have gone remarkably different especially when considering that Argentina's first goal was by Enzo Fernandes himself

is that the one where he charges into the back of the player and then punches the back of his head? But yeah, those first 15 minutes it looked like everything i had seen from the compilations was going to play out in this game.

But these tournaments in my opinion are always set up to make sure the biggest teams make it the furthest and at the most basic level because they have the biggest audiences and are worth the most money. Even the seedings when you think about it are about making sure the biggest teams last the longest in the tournament. You don't want your big teams to go out in the group stages.

for example if the last 4 teams was congo, paraguay, iran, switerzerland, outside those qualified nations and hardcore fans, most of the world wouldn't give a shit to tune in. The organisation has a great financial interest to make sure the biggest teams stay in the tournament the longest.
