South Korea now has enough power and resources to keep North Korea at bay, China and Russia harbor no animosity against South Korea, but having US military presence in South Korea unsettles China and Russia, this puts South Korea in a very precarious situation. Once US is gone , this region can be stablised.

If China gives up its military expansionism, Korea and Japan will never be wary of China. However, Koreans and Japanese know too well that China is not militarily favorable to Korea and Japan under the current situation. The A2/AD Strategy and Island chain(島鏈線), established unilaterally by China in 1982, poses a sufficient military threat to South Korea and Japan. The idea of China taking control of the Pacific Ocean from the United States itself poses a huge military threat to Korea and Japan. If China gives up its military expansionism, there is no reason for South Korea and Japan to be militarily wary of China.

China is just building a military to match her economy and overall strength, you don't expect a huge country like China having a military like Singapore, do you? Our military budget ratio to overall GDP is much smaller than most major countries in the world, half of America's. Korea's biggest enemy is Japan, this is the very country repeatedly tried to conquer and enslave Korea in the past several hundred years, most Koreans know it but maybe not you.

No, obviously, most Koreans don't think China is military safe. It's your own idea. You can tell by the problems that China is experiencing in the South China Sea. Korea and Japan are increasing their military power to protect, and the Korean military is not an invasion but an army to protect. It's completely different from China's expansionist army. I often watch Chinese military news. I've seen too many Chinese people think negatively about Korea's recent military buildup.

You are under estimating South Korea.

SK has already moved on from relying on the USA.

A lot of South Koreans know this. One thing I know is how the Koreans can actually defend themselves.

Look at the LA riots the Koreans were left by themselves they all armed up and defended their businesses and neighbourhoods.

In the 1500s the Koreans defended themselves against the Japanese.

Far Eastern geopolitics really interests me. I hope to learn more.

Chinese government and Korean government actually see eye to eye on many international issues, especially towards Japan. We regard South Korea more as a partner than an enemy. As for South China Sea, it's not only about China, it's 6 countries staking claims against each other, western media tries to portray the issue is China vs the whole region, it's not. China actually holds the least number of islands there.

ROC (Taiwan) claimS exactly the same area as PRC, PRC just inherited the claim from ROC, PRC didn't just make this claim up by itself.

I strongly agree with your opinion. Indeed, Turkey and South Korea are geographically at a disadvantage to deal with military threats. However, the difference between Korea and Turkey is that Korea is relatively safer from military threats than Turkey and is fully manageable. However, Turkey has too many military conflicts with countries such as PPK and Greece, Armenia, Syria, Iran and Russia. Turkey's surrounding by neighboring countries has been the main reason for Turkey's need to build up its military power. Anyway, Turkey and South Korea need to increase their military power because of their cursed geographical location and problematic neighboring countries.

Turkey is a bridge to Europe and Asia.

Everybody wants a piece of it until the Turks had the last laugh.

Thats why our neighbours dont like us. But in the region our biggest threat is Russia and Iran while lesser ones are Syria, Iraq and Armenia.

Syria, Iraq and Armenia dont have the military or economy to take on Turkey. But Russia and Iran are not economic powerhouses but they do have formidable militaries while Iran has lots of proxies. Turkey and Russia have been butting heads in Libya, Syria, Ukraine and the Caucasus. With Greece its really complicated both are Allies in Nato while both butt heads with each other. Turkey has not forgotten how Greece supports the PKK. Greece has not forgotten Cyprus.

With Israel all I can say its complicated. Both would attack each other in public while in reality they are shaking hands both need each other in the region.

Terrorism is another threat. From communist to islamist and a minority of right wing terrorists. Well most terrorists that are a threat to Turkey are communist/leftist/anarchist and islamist ones like al qaeda and isis. Turkey has to do operations both inside and outside to combat them.

Turkey's love and hate relations with Russia can be mended with the help of central Asian states. but there is one very big potential enemy for Turkey that should not be ignored , the west, they never believe you are one of them, one day , they all will throw their solid support behind Greece.

The map you have shown not shows that China has occupied the islands around the sea close to Vietnam and Philippines and Malaysia. China is still illegally anchoring numerous ships in the South China Sea to gain control of the entire South China Sea. China is causing too much conflict with most countries except Russia and Pakistan. This is the main reason why China is currently under economic sanctions from the United States.

Vietnam "occupies" more islands closer to Malaysia and the Phillipines, that's why it's numerous countries staking claims against each other.
US sanction on China?? They sanction themselves is more like, their economy is crashing and ours is soaring. We sanction them back, by the way.

Ask most Turks we say we belong to Asia not Europe.

There are minority of Turks who believe they are European or Western.

But I always believe we are Asian and belong to Asia. I could careless about DNA as you who you are based on language, culture and customs along with values.

Our ancestors came from Central Asia and parts of the Far East. I never saw it as a shame.

Turks right now support being more with the Turkic world rather than EU or the Arab league.

Its true in soccer we play in Europe rather than Asia. You gotta remember why we choose Uefa there is more competition in Europe rather than Asia.

Not to say Asian football is bad as it is growing and becoming better. Football world wide is the best in Europe. South Korea's win against Germany in the World cup was well done I even supported SK as the arrogant Germans deserve to lose.

It is true that the relationship between Turkey and Europe is not good at the momentarily. But Turkey still has a strong military presence in NATO and is one of NATO most important countries. At the moment, there is no reason for Turkey to leave NATO. At the moment, NATO allies do not want Turkey to leave NATO

The Chinese don't take all the problems they are currently causing seriously. Think carefully about why most of China's neighbors hate China, including the South China Sea conflict, territorial dispute with Japan, border dispute with India, and oppression of Uighurs.

China has 14 neighbors, the most numerous in the world, how many of them hate China? China hasn't fired a single shot at any country for 3 decades, the only real conflict that China is having now is with India, which indeed has trouble with every neighobr

Afghanistan, Bhutan, India, Kazakhstan, North Korea, Kyrgyzstan, Laos, Mongolia, Myanmar (Burma), Nepal, Pakistan, Russia, Tajikistan, and Vietnam.

Another one having trouble with every immediate neighbor is Japan, which has territorial disputes with every single neighbor, China, North Korea, South Korea and Russia.

None is our land neigbor and Taiwan is not a country, does your government recognize Taiwan as a country?
At least Taiwanese can think rationally unlike Chinese. You will never admit Taiwan, but Taiwan is not part of China now.

Ethnically European, Culturally west Asian.

More like Eurasia. My parents come from Eskisehir which is Central Anatolia which is the Asian part of Turkey majority of Turkey is in Asia while only 3 per cent is in Europe. My mums side are Bulgarian Turks while my Dads side hail from Crimean Turks/Tatars.

The Turks that live in the European side of Turkey can call themselves European if they want.

Turkey is also called Asia minor which is little Asia as the Europeans like the Greeks and Romans have underestimated how big Asia is.
