That is the typical thing and there is nothing to be surprised even Koreans in the last decades has got such stuff from Germans (consider they have been constructing submarines on their own since 80s -90s). That is why they (PAL) need a solid ToT to gain abilities in construction of the submarines, and further to improve capabilities they have learnt from Koreans. There are various partners out there, forget the big submarines for now, even for the midget submarines. I am pretty sure Italians have already been strolling around for a cooperation on the midget submarines but not sure if they can penetrate since their company is not that reputable for an importance in media.

In submarine business what matters the most is the experience, the rest is easy to get. you order a machine,it arrives in some months,placed,fixed and ready to use. experience and culture takes years to develop. You order a design blueprints arrive in the same day from google drive (simplifying for sake of simplicity).

That is why they shouldn't take a long break from the construction, MLU, retrofit whatever you call, the workers should be constantly kept busy on the submarine construction and repair.

even a country in calibre such as australia who had clear plan beg to differ, they already invest billion to be able locally produced submarine(foreign design) and absorb every little bit local offset as possible from such contract, ended up as another internal drama.

– Menteri Pertahanan (Menhan) Prabowo Subianto menerima kunjungan kehormatan Duta Besar (Dubes) Jepang untuk Indonesia H.E. Mr. Kenzi Kanasugi, Selasa (31/8) di Kementerian Pertahanan, Jakarta.


Dalam pertemuan tersebut, Menhan didampingi Dirjen Strahan Mayjen TNI Dr. rer. pol. Rodon Pedrason, M.A., Dirjen Renhan Mayjen TNI Dr. Budi Prijono, ST, M.M, CfrA, Kabaranahan Marsda TNI Yusuf Jauhari, M.Eng., dan Dirkersinhan Ditjen Strahan Brigjen TNI J. Binsar Parluhutan Sianipar. Sedangkan Dubes Jepang didampingi Atase Pertahanan Jepang Capt. (N) Hidenori Mizuno.


Pada

kunjungan ini diantaranya membahas upaya peningkatan kerja sama dan hubungan bilateral antara Indonesia dan Jepang, khususnya di bidang pertahanan yang selama ini sudah terjalin dengan baik.


Indonesia dan Jepang telah menyepakati Perjanjian Kerja sama Alih Alutsista dan Teknologi, menandai dimulainya kerja sama antara industri pertahanan yang ditandatangani oleh Menhan kedua negara, pada 30 Maret 2021 lalu. (Biro Humas Setjen Kemhan)

Apart from the obvious like Gundam, err, Mogami-chan, and probably Patlabor, I mean Soryu-chan, I wonder what else is in the pipeline for our local defense industries. Although they may still just talk for the time being, but I do hope that there are still a lot more to come as the result of this meeting.
