Why would we need SAMP-T while our 100km range AD missile is almost ready?

We should not be interested in SAMP-T like systems anymore but look to THAAD like systems

Samp-t has anti-ballistic capabilities
ismail demir said that turkey will soon develop anti-ballistic air defence

think either :

1- turkey need samp-t to reverse engineer it to help with the future turkish air defence systems .

2- If turkey can be part of this program then they can block any future sales to greek , eygpt , ksa or any ( anti turkey country )

I don't think they will give Turkey any right to block anything.

The only thing that would make sense would be with SAMP-T blk II

There has been talk of a joint working group from the very beginning and even in these early period Turkish officials mentioned the likely partnership studies as "SAMP-T". These studies have been carried out to determine the needs of the three countries. Such a study is not done for an existing system because you cannot change the existing system according to the new demands of the countries and other two France and Italy are already operaring the Aster-30 missiles. The system mentioned as "SAMP-T" is most likely to be the newly developed Block-2 that EuroSam is working on and It is still in design phase and we all know Roketsan-SAGE and Aselsan team are developing Turkish anti-ballistic missile defence system. Otherwise, Aster-30 Blk-1 don't make any sense

So do you think it is worth investing in SAMP-T when Ricketsan, SAGE, and Aselsan are working on domestic AD?

I don't think they allow Turkey to be a part of their latest gen missile system but If an agreement based on mutual trust and equal rights in joint production and sales can be made under appropriate conditions, it will be a very vital development for Turkish missile industry. Besides, this enables the system that Turkey is developing to come out with a more cost-effective solution in a shorter time. With the experience gained, Turkey can also produce very different domestic products on our own.

Purpose? Benefit? Hisar-U is around the corner, most likely a missile with the same characteristics as Aster-30. Siper will become active in the inventory over the next 3-5 years.

Why is this still ongoing? Will we receive ToT for our own projects? Will we be permitted to use the Missile with MDAS on Istif-Class and TF-2000 ships?

Are we collaborating on NG Surface-to-Air Missiles? Don't make me laugh as if they would let us ever enter such a project.

This would have made more sense 4-5 years ago before relations fell apart and before we foolishly bought the S-400 that is rotting at the same spot it was deliverd to 2 and a half years ago.

Aster 30 Block 2 BMD currently under development is to have capability to stop ballistic missiles with 3000 km range.
Aster 30 Block 1 NT that is in use has capability to stop ballistic missiles with a range of 1500km.
So neither is waste of money. Even the block 1 NT covers all SRBMs and some MRBMs with a good number of countries that have missiles near our borders.
The new block 2, under development, will cover all MRBMs (medium range ballistic missiles).
Aselsan and Roketsan have come a long way. But development of these systems are not cheap. As well as cost there is the time factor too. So there will be great synergy in joining of forces with the French and the Italians , not just from our perspective but from theirs too.
If we are going to further develop our systems for THAAD like AD systems, then SAMPT/ MBDA is the right address to be in to clear the medium range defence hurdle first.

Anti ballistic missile defense is overrated.

Did we ever see any proof that it works? No?

Stopping Ballistic missiles is like shooting with a shotgun on a fly. Don't count those long range artillery Scud missiles as Ballistic missile.

Scud is more an oversized MACH4 rocket vs Mach12+ ballistic missiles.

The only interception possibility of ballistic missiles is with missiles of same speed or higher which is only possible in space (example US SM3 missile), the rest of ABM missiles are crap you will never see them proven.

100km range missile(whatever you call it) is ready and counting days for testing. It will be tested in 2022(probably the second half). It won't have any anti-ballistic capabilities. 150km range missile is in a very advanced state. Tests are planned for 2023(probably the second half) it will have limited anti-ballistic capabilities but its main target will be air-breathing targets. Turkish anti-ballistic missile is far from completion. According to the latest info I have, it will be ready in 2027 and it will have exoatmospheric(100km+ altitude) interception capability. We are willing to cooperate for that missile but it is not a must. We want to share the burden if it is possible. If it is not we will do it on our own. Roketsan demonstrated that it can successfully control a payload in space with a national RCS system. This is a big portion of the work.

Aster / SAMP- T air defence system is a result of 30 year R&D and innovation.. We just get first stage of Hisar family after 10 years of hard work.. Never underestimate the hard work and also never underestimate experience, it could benefit Turkey a lot. Also engaging ballistic missiles is a whole different story, I think Turkey is interested with that. Aster is a very capable missile, AD is not just about range of the missile. That is why I always feel people overestimate S400 as it has long range. Also as far as I remember either SM3 or Aster will be used in TF2000? or it will be delayed another 10 years

Since when is US selling SM3? Don't bet on it!

I am not saying that Aster / SAMP-T is bad but we have reached missile technology of similar capabilities, so it is waste of money to invest in a technology that we already have indigenously.

I thought we Turks already learned our lessons on depending, apparently not all of us.

There's always a capacity to learn and understand how things work, I think it's excellent that we have S-400 and the possibility of SAMP-T ; We would potentially have both an 'OPFOR' and 'BLUFOR' air-defence system to analyse, understand and develop our own systems from. Plus, with the Greeks attaining ASTERs with their new frigates from France, it will give us an advantage of understanding their missiles capability.
