It has been stated that the TCG Istanbul (F-515) Frigate, which will be delivered in 2023, will have a 16-cell National Vertical Launch System (MIDLAS), which Roketsan continues to develop, instead of the Mk41 VLS Vertical Launch System, and both HİSAR and ESSM (Evolved SeaSparrow Missile) missiles will be used together.

as in the case of South Korea USA is not providing any US missiles for foreign designed VLS, their policy is US VLS and US missiles only so far.for instance South Korea had to go for a hybrid solution; they use US VLS with US missile and for their own designed VLS they use their home grown missiles in KDX-III AEGIS Destroyers, total 80 Mk 41 vertical launch cells 48 + 32 for US missiles mainly SM 2 Block IIIA and IIIB to be exact and 48 K - VLS (Korean VLS) cells which are dedicated to Korean missiles. MIDLAS litterly means national missiles only which is fantastic anyway.

The figure was provided by Aselsan, and since the beginning of the project they were responsible with the ESSM integration (on weapon systems), thus they might be still referring to the weapon control system as ESSM controller. It could be a confusion, also it may not be if they manage to get ESSM consoles and pull a string from VLS to the control suite dedicated to ESSM controller. If the shell is 1 to 1 compatible this can be done. But it means whenever they want to change address of the VLS (ESSM or Hisar/Siper/G40 controller) they will need to change the "plug". It will require some modification each time or they will dedicate 8 VLS for ESSM, 8 for Siper et al. This is only valid if MIDLAS is 1 to 1 copy of the Mk41 structure and layout wise.

Thats what we talked about, last time.
I didn't mean that message to Sunnetci by the way, my ranting is to the people who keeps talking about embargoes as being defence experts in youtube/twitter without knowing how things run inside the project. Sunnetci here, clarified my point as well so i appreciate he asked about this to an authority and posted it.

Future Turkish submarine flotilla will be likely formed as this:

MilDen 2500+ tonnes class submarine (design not concluded) , AIP (or Li-Ion)
TS-1700 or equivalent 1500+ tonnes class submarine , Li-Ion
STM500 (or an equivalent unmanned platform of 200-300 tonnes) , Li-Ion
L-UUV (20+ tonnes) to be launched from Milden, Li-Ion
M-UUV (2-5 tonnes) to be launched from TS-1700, Milden, Li-Ion
UUV (sized as HWT) to be launched from all submarines, compatible to all HWT tubes, Li-ıon

STM500 matter is highly interesting, we can be assured we will hear some interesting news/progresses by end of 2021. It is not just an export to a single country, or getting into the service of TN, but multiple paths.
Private shipyards can be involved in Submarine business*, lately TAIS manager has also indicated their interest on this by telling "we have handled the grey ones so far successfully, we are expecting to be tasked by the black ones". I doubt if TS1700 or the equivalent will be awarded to a private shipyard but STM500 sized subs will definitely be. Multiple construction lines will be created to accelerate the progress after the first hull reaching a maturity following the sea trials.

*If financial troubles and risk management is handled properly, their only worry is entirely "emotional".

Rear Admiral Alper YENİEL (Naval Air Commander), who made a speech at the "Naval Air Projects" session held within the scope of the 10th Naval Systems Seminar, gave information about the ongoing projects.

Within the scope of the "New Generation Naval Patrol (D/K) Aircraft Project" of the Turkish Naval Forces, it is aimed to bring jet-powered platforms into the inventory. Currently, the D/K aircraft in the inventory are turboprop propeller aircraft. With the new generation D/K, it is aimed to switch to jet engines. In the presentation made, in relation to the capability gains, compared to the existing D/K aircraft;

  • Doubling the airtime,
  • Increasing the radius of operation from 1400 miles to 4500 miles,
  • Air-to-surface guided projectile firing,
  • Examples of rapid transfer to the operation area were presented.
P-8 Poseidon (USA) and Kawasaki P-1 (Japan) D/K aircraft were featured in the presentation.

Temel Kotil was saying that a 60 passenger plane is the best fit for a new plane introduction as there is a vacuum in the market for such a plane. A plane that size can possibly be modified for patrol operations as well as tanker operations and possibly for some cargo operations be it civilian or military. Should be relatively easy to make as it is not so large.

Minister of National Defense Hulusi Akar: "We aim to complete the conceptual design of our National Submarine (MILDEN) Project this year."
So we can expect contract and detail design to be done by 2025-2026, and Milden starts construction in Golcuk Naval Shipyard right after the ground is cleared. First hull can be delivered in 2030+ .

There is sufficient time to develop necessary sensors and propulsion techs.

I wonder what Armerkom will focus on after TF2000 and Milden.

MPA in this Class can operate all the mediterran, even on african Atlantic Coast and in arabian Sea.

Let's combine this with F16 request, put an order for 2 P8 Poseidon and 2 New E-7A Wedgetail for long range operations.. Uncle Sam cannot resist to a big order, money comes first for Johnny. And some more Ch-47s needed. Why don't Turkey make a big order list, like Poseidons, F16s, Ch-47s, 136 F35, E7s, MK-41s, SM3s,THAAD.. US is upset because Turkey produces her products and don't buy like Arabs, and buys from Russia, I don't think they can resist to a multi billion dollar shopping list. You would get your lobby instantly, Lockheed, Boeing, Raytheon combined. There are still things that Turkey can't produce or loses time due to long R&D process.
